The early reviews are in and they look damn good so far! Tomorrow night can't get here fast enough :)

The only complaints I've heard is that the movie is almost like a "greatest hits" album.

but Hell....that's a good thing in my opinion! ANYTHING to get the stench of the prequels off of the franchise.

Caught it last night in an advanced screening.  It would be pretty hard to handicap after one viewing - but initially I would have it 2nd of the 7 only trailing Empire.  The movie does have its flaws though - some more irritating than others.

I told my friend I'd be happy if it ranked third 5, 4, then 7 but if you are saying 2nd it must be really good

The reason I have it in front of ANH is because 4 conveniently takes us to the climax and ultimately the end of the movie.  I still would go 5, 7, 4 as my top 3, but 7 is what 4 could have been in terms of 'round 1'.

Until there's a spoiler thread about the movie I won't touch it beyond that, but those were my true initial reactions.

You simply have to have 4 up there because it was the movie that started it all and in terms of storytelling, thematically it was a masterpiece and really an instant classic.

I can tell you straight up, 97% is too much.  You're putting it up there with like Shawshank, etc. I think people wanted it to be so good, they can't admit it had flaws, or also the last 3 were so disappointing they are just over the rainbow happy about this.  It's a good 85-90% though :).

It's definitely the best Star Wars after Empire (but I've always said Empire was really the only GREAT Star Wars movie).

I loved it.  IMO, far and away the best movie I have seen in the theater this year.   Abrams did a wonderful job and with the exception of Han Solo, the new characters are more interesting than the old ones were.  And they are better actors/actresses.

And I like the new Star Destroyer look as well.  I do hope though that the don't do anymore "got to destroy the superweapon movies".  Three times is probably enough.

    • Jack Roslovic: Only 2 other UFA, right-handed centers age 28 or under had more points (39) than him- Sam Bennett (51) and Pius Suter (46). There were 4 other centers age 33 and older who scored more: Gireaux (37), Marchand (37), Tavares (34), Granlund (33).  Unless the Canes go old, if they let Jack walk, they won't get a center who scored more.  Thoughts?
    • nope     This is why we come back every year.  Hope springs eternal
    • It's important to differentiate criticism and hate. I can't speak for that individual you quoted. But most people who have been critical of the Tepper's have been so because both of them have made it a point to put themselves front and center and in the middle of team operations and we have been largely horrific more often than not as a result. If people are making derogatory remarks about her that should be met with an appropriate response but if people are being defensive just because she's being criticized all I can say is people should get used to it. Both her and David would have been getting absolutely skewered by the media and the fans if this were a big market franchise. The Lakers are finally being sold off after years and years of public criticism of Jeannie Buss and even though I'm the furthest you could go from being a Lakers fan just about anyone you could meet who is familiar with the NBA would say the criticism was certainly valid.
