I mean, there is a Steve Smith thread every single week. The Panthers are 14-0 and he hasn't been a panther for two seasons.

I just can't wrap my head around it.

Much like the golden calf, can we auto correct all Steve Smith's to "Captain Sassypants"?

Might help.

Smitty is who he is.  He was great for us but we moved on and so did he.  He doesnt strike me as the type of guy who is very introspective about his mistakes or dwells on regrets.  No need looking back because Smitty isnt likely doing that either. He is just counting the millions we paid him and the million more Baltimore did.  After all his decision was about the money plain and simple.

Steve Smith's mark on the franchise will be around forever. He helped legitimize the Panthers in their first decade by being instrumental in our (to-date) only NFC Championship. Hey was a keystone of the offenses of the mid-aughts; teams with Delhomme, Moose, Williams, Beason, Peppers, etc. He helped make those teams great. Nothing would have made me happier than to see him get a Super Bowl ring here. But it didn't work out that way.

That said, Steve Smith had about as much connection with THIS team as Keyshawn Johnson. Outside of Cam, most of the people contributing now weren't even on the roster when Smitty was around.

To use the analogy of the OP, it's like you dated a 6 in high school, then broke up and lost touch, and at the 10 year reunion she happened to have gotten in shape and looked like a 9.5. It didn't have anything to do with you. What happened since the two parted ways was their business, and you can't feel bad or jealous about it.

Love Smitty, he's still my all-time favorite Panther. But this team playing this way has nothing to do with him, and I don't feel the least bit bad that he's not here for it.

steve smith took a steaming poo on this team on his way out. he trashed rivera, he trashed gettleman, he trashed his young quarterback.

steve smith deserves whatever pangs of regret are reverberating from the recesses of his heart. he thought he was the good guy... turns out he wasn't
