Insight into the Norman sack...

I am still confused as to why Norman would blitz and Coleman would cover deep. History has shown everyone that Coleman is a liability when trailing in coverage. It should have been Coleman blitzing and Norman in coverage. Wilson was attacking Coleman all game. At least with Norman covering he may have hesitated and Norman has the ability to break that pass up.

That play is gone from the playbook until the Panthers get a safety that can cover like a CB.

Id rather have Boston blitzing than Coleman or our best corner.

We blitzed Harper once that I can remember yesterday and as can be expected he never got in the backfield.

It looked like Norman was on Lynch and then Lynch ran a crossing route away from Norman's Zone. If Norman's zone was the flat on that side and he had no one in it, and the QB's outlet receiver (Lynch) just ran away from that zone, it actually doesn't seem like a huge gamble on Norman's part at that point to go after the QB.

Seemed like a very cerebral football play to me.

Norman was on a blitz on the Baldwin right corner TD, Coleman had to cover him man on man.
Pretty weird defensive play if you ask me.

Which presents a good argument for why it's not done that often.

If Wilson was able to exploit it, imagine what Brady or Manning could do. Those guys feast on that kind of thing.

this was my thought as well. it would've had to have been one hell of a delayed blitz from the most unorthodox position to be planned.

i'm willing to be rivera tears his ass for it.

As he should. It worked out that play, but you can't have defensive players "going rogue" whenever they feel like they need to. That leads to busted coverages. Busted coverages lead to enemy points. Enemy points lead to defeats.

Manning would look over there, sigh, and think to himself, "I wish I still had the arm strength to hit that pass," and then proceed to check it down to CJ Anderson.

Valid point.

I'm torn.

On the one hand, I want Denver to win because Arizona or Carolina will crush them. Peyton Manning will not beat them or us. We're just too good in the NFC. The Patriots are the only threat to the Cards or Panthers.

On the other hand, I want NE to win, so that if we beat the Cardinals we can get revenge for the 2003 season.

Back when he was Chargers DC, nobody handled Manning better than Ron Rivera.

I ultimately don't care who we face. I just want to see us get there and win.

I remember thinking before the game that they don't really use Norman much on blitzes (which I can understand). Wondered if it was something they might try in the postseason.

The Answer: Not intentionally

Well they did and Colman got Burned. Probably why they don't do it lol.
