I wouldn't be opposed to trying it if Finnegan is getting abused physically by Fitz, but going into the game with the plan that a rookie OLB is going to cover a future HoF WR would be idiotic. I think Harper or Coleman would be a better option as a slot CB on Fitz with Boston playing safety if Cortland fails though

After what I saw yesterday I don't want to see Coleman man to man on anyone. And if we have Harper covering Fitz you can go ahead and call the dogs and p on the fire cause we b done

I'm also surprised Funchess didn't get more playing time.  Though that was probably bought on by the conservative playcalling.  That said, I wouldn't mind seeing Shaq getting some work against this Cardinals team.  Finnegan won't be able to hold Fitz' jock.  At least we know Fitzgerald wouldn't be able to out-muscle Shaq at the line of scrimmage.  Give me some bump and run, along with the zone.

Shay was drafted to replace Davis in the near future and maintain our freak LB play as he and Luke would be the guys going forward.

so until that day comes, we won't see tons of Shaq unless we are playing Kansas City or a team that allows us to play real 4-3 D

The whole point of drafting Shaq was to keep our base defense in most scenarios. He  doesn't have the expereicne enough experience yet to play in passing downs, but next year we will proabably see a lot more 4-3 base defense.

I love posters asking huddlers whether the Panthers should use Shaq in three receiver sets as if any of us besides Zod have watched any practices to even have an informed opinion and would know enough about our defensive sets and individual responsibilities on each pass play to be able to answer the question. Maybe it is just me but if McDermott thought Shaq was the best option, he would be playing there already.

Yeah it may take Shaq a little longer to get where they feel comfortable out there especially in trying to defend a guy like Fitz.  Hopefully next year he can move to that big nickel spot and give us a good option for defending some of these pass heavy teams that rely on physical receivers, particularly out of the slot.

    • This is one of my key concerns lost in the sauce that is the neverending conversation about him evading pressure and the OL. Eventually any QB is going to have to step up into the pocket and show the defense they can still beat them even if they get through. We have a limited QB who cannot consistently do this and as such we are relegated to going back and forth about how successful he was at evading pressure but we have little else to write home about. Tyler Shough stepped up into the pocket and made plays despite being pressured and sacked. He's played in about 35 less games than Bryce Young. That is a problem. And isn't just going to go away. The Bucs are going to do the same thing after watching the film.
    • Oh, absolutely! That doesn't absolve the absolute dogshit hockey that the team played in front of him, though. Only Cane that played well tonight was Bradly Nadeau.
    • Thanks for illustrating my point.  No one in the last several pages of this discussion is suggesting we should hang on to him, but anytime someone says anything less than "take him out back and shoot him" you act like they are. That's either you not understanding what you're reading or just being a nimrod because you can't keep up. (I would have said 'or just sh-tposting' but you're way too emotional on this topic for that) Either way, the result is the same 😆
