Why? Because we as a  nation have grown accustomed to me me me. One kid gets a ball , and it means umpteen number of other kids didn't. This is not a situation where a ball is kicked and not caught by the net in the stands. Its one where a star player selectively chooses one kid of another, or one fan over another. One fan happy in getting a ball is 30 more fans pissed they didn't get it.

 

I know and agree its stupid, but its the nature of business. Making one person happy at the expense of 30, 40, 100, 1000 others is a big no no. Of course it isn't an "expense" really , but fickle people that think they deserve a ball see it that way. If i paid big money for me and my family to be placed in the front row in prime spot to possibly get a ball,only to see it given away to some kid that ran down from the cheap seats....I might be pissed as well.

You think people would get that upset they didn't get a ball and hold a grudge.

Shoot! If that's the case: Companies, would stop giving away free stuff (which they do all the time to promote stuff), cause they almost always never have enough. 

Hell! Wouldn't people get mad for not winning various contest and lotteries (yes, we know it's random, but only a few win). Just think about Radio contest (who calls in first; the 110th caller, etc..).

For some reason, I thought the NFL already fined players who gave balls away?  I just always thought Cam did it anyway.  Shows how much I know.

Common misconception. There's fines for throwing balls into the stands, not handing them.

Given the copycat nature of the league and all the players who dab now, does any other team or player do the Sunday giveaway?  I've not seen anyone else do it.

Even if they wanted to ban such a thing, one of Cam's many sponsors would gladly step up to pay the fine each time he did it simply for the good press.

The NFL just won't come out and ban something during the season. Plus I cannot think of any reason why they would want to.

Someday Johnny Manziel will score a TD, then yank off his pants and place his balls in a young childs hand, thus banning the awarding of balls to kids at football games

Considering they did a piece about it pregame this past sunday, No way on earth that happens.  In an era of Ray Rice and Greg Hardy, the NFL could use all the positive pub it could get, and this is actually something positive and nice that an NFL team does.
