^ THAT, my friends, would be AWESOME news.

1) early "revenge", statement, national TV, etc.

2) getting God knows who in their first game under center for Denver at QB

3) less likely at least one of our other NFC road games will be in "night" hostile road environments

4) no freezing cold games

5) having an extra few days to get ready for our week 2 game

I'm down for it!

I'll stick by this game happening in the first three weeks. Just too much of a chance that it loses its luster if they wait too long. We haven't proven we can consistently win across seasons and they probably won't have Manning. Even if they're undefeated with Brock Osweiler, it doesn't mean they're a big national draw. But if they're sucking with Osweiler...

Will be very interesting to see how this plays out.

BBR has posted the 2016 strength of schedule rankings.  Panthers are #12.  Green Bay winds up with the easiest schedule on paper going into 2016,

The Panthers' 2016 opponents went 131-125 last year for a winning percentage of .512. The home and away schedules are nearly similar, with each featuring three playoff teams.

HOME: Atlanta (8-8), New Orleans (7-9), Tampa Bay (6-10), Arizona (13-3), San Francisco (5-11), Kansas City (11-5), San Diego (4-12), Minnesota (11-5)
Combined record = 66-63

AWAY: Atlanta (8-8), New Orleans (7-9), Tampa Bay (6-10), Los Angeles (7-9), Seattle (10-6), Denver (12-4), Oakland (7-9), Washington (9-7)
Combined record = 66-62

The biggest challenge on the schedule may be miles more so than an opponent. The NFC South was already matched up with the NFC West and AFC West, and when St. Louis moved to L.A., the Panthers added a third West Coast trip, the most they've had in a single season.

As for the rest of the NFC South, their schedules all land inside the top-5 toughest. Of course, that's largely a product of facing a 15-1 team twice.

2016 NFL Strength of Schedule

t1. San Francisco: 142-114, .555

t1. Atlanta: 142-114, .555

3. Los Angeles: 141-115, .551

4. New Orleans: 140-116, .547

t5. Seattle: 139-117, .543

t-5. Tampa Bay: 139-117, .543

t7. Arizona: 136-120, .531

t7. NY Jets: 136-120, .531

9. New England: 134-122, .523

10. Buffalo: 133-123, .520

11. Miami: 132-124, .516

12. Carolina: 131-125, .512

13. San Diego: 130-126, .508

14. Denver: 129-127, .504

15. Oakland: 128-128, .500

16. Kansas City: 127-129, .496

Originally, I said I'd put us in Denver in Weeks 2 or 3, but now I'm not so sure. That whole QB situation and loss of so many free agents in Denver makes that opening night a weird game. Definitely a good shot they put us there. Probably us, Houston, or Indy. They also host the Pats, but I bet they hang on to that one for a little later in the year. I'd say 60/40 chance we open on Thursday.

Mock schedule version 1.0: (yeah, I might do this again. so what?)

How dare you put @ATL as the last game again?

Speaking of, have the dates of all the bowl games been finalized yet? That usually determines the sites of the week 17 games in the NFC South. I know the Peach Bowl is at night on Dec 31 and week 17 is on Jan 1 so Atlanta will most likely be on the road then. Sugar Bowl, Outback Bowl and Belk Bowl dates will be factors for the other NFC South teams. I think the Sugar and Outback Bowls occur on Jan 2 when Jan 1 is a Sunday and since Tampa plays on grass, the one day turnaround in the Superdome is the likelier choice. Belk Bowl will probably be just after Christmas. I'd guess that Carolina and New Orleans are the home teams in week 17 based on that.

Since TB and CAR have grass fields, I chose to put them on the road. Who knows how it'll shake out?
