Bill Barnwell's 5 offseason moves Panthers need to make

Personally what I would do is

Cut CJ.

Tag Norman to the fully locked up tag so no one can pick him up.

Sign Weddle to a 3 or 4 year deal. Get him locked up for his career.

Draft a DE like Calhoun or Dobbs.

Draft Gronk from KSU to replace Tolbert next year

Sign Tolbert to a 1 year. 2M$ deal.

Extend Kalil to 3 or 4 years so he is locked up til he retires.

Sign depth at DE and Oline.

Note: Sign KK to a 5 or 6 year deal next year along with Norman who should get a 3/4 year deal with 13-16 mil a year depending on his performance NEXT YEAR. See if he can be a consistant performer or if he is a one hit wonder.

Cursed on Hurney no doubt but I say cut the ties.  His production isn't worth the money we would be paying him.   I realize he is good against the run but IMO his sacks are declining in a hurry and we can find better, younger.

I see that point clearly, and I am torn on what the smart thing would be--he is only 30, but he has been injury prone lately and he has been in the league for a decade--that is a lot of football.  He showed a few flashes in the playoffs--but, yeah, he may be done.  Would he be better than a rookie?

That is the question.  Most rookies take time to develop.  The only other option is free agency.  Could we bring in a DE with the money we save?  Lotta options.

I would understand any move, but to reduce his role and his salary to about $6m per might be the smart thing to do, albeit a gamble--so would cutting him.

Not sure why everyone is so quick to want to get rid of CJ. Everyone convientally forgot he had a sack in every playoff game. I'd much rather have him take a cut and extend him a year or two. I really don't want to see a rookie starting opposite of Kony and I doubt we invest in a pricey FA DT.

    • At this point the Tepper's seem to be leading you around by the nose based on how much time you spend carrying water for them so I'm not surprised you're struggling. We are the only team who saw fit to install Andy Dalton with his zero career playoff wins as a culture cornerstone and a key mentor. Even the putrid Saints wanted no parts of that. Truth hurts 🤷‍♂️
    • They have drafted two QB's since they took Hurts in the 2020 Draft. Tanner McKee(6th - 2023) and Kyle McCord(6th - 2025). In that span we have drafted Bryce Young(1st - 2023) and Matt Corral(3rd - 2022). Technically, we have invested significantly higher draft capital on QB's(albeit one less than they). It's not the investement that is the issue, it's the results. Corral was literally not a rosterable player with a THIRD ROUND PICK. We gave up a king's ransom for Bryce to basically get Davis Mills results(so far).
    • No QB from the draft or free agency was going to change this being a losing season for us. I mean we’re rebuilding, everything we’re doing is meant to be for winning tomorrow.
