Pick an edge rusher

We need a pass rusher to develop for the future, an Dodd really intrigues me.  But I have a feeling that he'll be a riser who moves ahead of our draft position.  If not him, then whoever is the best pass rusher who can also play the run available at 30 (don't want another pass rusher only like Addison).

But even with a high draft pick, we need another vet, whether that's CJ on an extension or pay cut or someone like Mario Williams who's getting up there in age, but likely still has a couple of years left in him.

Double dip in the draft again. Shilique Calhoun and Emmanuel Ogbah in the draft. Add a vet DE for $3 mil or less per season. DE rotation is set and they can get Ealy more snaps by using him in both the DE and DT rotations.

I would take either or to be quite honest. I would prefer Calhoun, cuz I am a State homer, and I think he is an exceptional football player. Plus, he has that football mentality. He just gets it. Which is why I think he could have an impact as a rookie. He plays the run exceptionally well, and he defiantly can get after the QB.

Just once, ok, maybe for the second time, we need to get us a State kid. I mean hellz, I've been a fan since the get go. Is it too much to ask for Gman to draft Calhoun for me? I don't think it's a reach at 30. The kid is a monster. And like I said. Because of his smarts and work ethic. I believe he will make an impact rather quickly.

C'mon Gman. Do it for daddy.

Oh, and thanks for the video.

Chris Long, DE, 30

Mario Williams, DE, 31

Robert Ayers Jr., DE, 30

Kevin Dodd, DE, 23

I feel like one way or another, we end up with one of these dudes, which one would you all prefer? I feel like Ayers is the most sensible as he matches the scheme and has just as much value as any of the others, though Chris Long would seem to fill that Jared Allen spot.

What say you?

Out of that list, Mario. I think like Jared, him playing out of position hurt his production but he still got a lot left in the tank. Seeing how he played in a 4-3 scheme alongside Dareus and Kyle Williams in 2014, he put up numbers. I expect the same if he signs with CAR. I'd say Star/KK > Kyle/Dareus.

    • I'm really not stressing about upgrading from Bryce. I'm frustrated with our inability (or refusal) to recognize overall bad QB performance and failure to seriously address the issue. QB is the most impactful position on the field, and we're not only settling for what we've been given to this point, but we've rewarded it with a fully guaranteed 5th year extension for a player that's never played 2 NFL franchise QB quality games back to back in 3 seasons. I can't understand how that's ok from a coach's or GM's viewpoint. Successful franchises don't do things like this. It just doesn't make sense.  We do not have a top half of the league QB right now. Since we don't have that player, we should be looking for him. Pickett isn't it. Grier isn't it. Bryce hasn't proven he is yet. Until you have that sure fire franchise QB, you keep looking. You're not consistently making the playoffs, a deep run, or a SB appearance without one.  What's the worst that could happen? We end up with 2 potential number 1 QBs? How horrible.
    • Easy to understand Pickett, if this is anywhere close to on point. Canales wants to get as close to Bryce as he can- get the pace and timing in the throws as close a he can to Bryce. So the other players don’t have to adjust so much, to a new guy.       If Cam was the 1, he would look for a rocket arm.  But Bryce is the 1. Look for limited in the same way.  Low velocity, plenty of air under it, feels just like home when Picket comes in. And you have the guys on the second team not having such a radical adjustment (if they have to play) like with Dalton to Bryce.    Enter Grier. I guess we will collect those types.
    • Best part is if we draft him, we can also use him as our fourth and one QB sneaker
