Money or winning?

A guy like Mario Williams comes to mind.  He's made a ton of money in his career and is from NC.  Has never appeared in a playoff game (the Texans qualified for the playoffs in 2011 but he was on IR)

He's a prime candidate for "win or make more money" because the Jacksonville Jaguars would surely sign him to a huge deal.  But if he wants to come home and win, he'd accept much less.

99% of the guys in the league are going to take the money and I don't blame them.  Their window for potential earnings is small, and let's face it, most are not financially savy.  For example, CJ is opening a restaurant.  He could have saved a lot of time if he would have taken the money he invested for that venture and have just bought some liter fluid and burnt cash to hell and back.

It's fairly simple, if someone offers you a HUGE guaranteed check, you take it.  If you're not near as good as that contract, take the check that will take care of your future.  Then, once you get cut, look for a contender, if they'll have you.  There are guys in the Hall of Fame who never sniffed a super bowl.

Sure the SB is great, but it won't pay for your long term health like Jacksonville over paying you...

Winning.  Winning gets you more endorsement deals, gives yourself higher demand post retirement if you are a multiple champion, food tastes better when you win, jokes are funnier when you win.

Legacy is more valuable than being more ultra rich than you already are in the moment, and especially if once you are done playing everyone forgets about you and the teams you played on.

I probably remember more players on the 2003 team than any other team (other than probably last 5 years just because of recency)

I agree with you in the endorsement deals , but only for the right position and player.  Linemen do NOT typically become spokesmen for companies....they are called big uglies for a reason.
