Name an offensive lineman at our picks that would've contributed better than any of our starters and would've filled a better need than compared to our pre-draft skim secondary situation.

At our pick positions, we were not trying to find an Olineman who would immediately be better than one of our starters.

But by picking at #2 in round 5 (141 overall) thanks to our trade with the Browns, we could have had the pick of several potentially solid OTs, inclduing some whom we visited with:

Joe Haeg:  http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/profiles/joe-haeg?id=2555371

Brandon Shell:  http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/profiles/brandon-shell?id=2555193

Vaitai H:  http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/profiles/halapoulivaati-vaitai?id=2555196

John Theus:  http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/profiles/john-theus?id=2555198

Kyle Murphy: http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/profiles/kyle-murphy?id=2555200

Remmers & Oher are both in contract years.  We have one unproven rookie (83 snaps total) behind them.  Plus two other guys that seem like camp / PS bodies.

What other GM's thought they were 3-5th rounders?

You seem to have great NFL connections to have this kind of data!

Fair enough,  I have no idea how GMs had these players ranked.  Gman said he had 2nd round grades on them so I doubt hes losing sleep over what the internet mock draft "experts" and that idiot huddler shaqattaq think. to quote the great Jeremy Igo...l need to "Let go and let Gett"

The cap situation is completely different from 2014.

This is very true, thankfully.  With some money to spend, DG should be able to find us some Oline depth.  I'm concerned about our current depth, but I don't thing DG is stupid (quite the contrary), so I just have to hope that whatever he's planning & hoping comes together in the way that he hopes.

Way I look at it, DG just solidified the defense until 2019-2020. The only position we might need to address will be DE and S and that is only if some of the young guys aren't the answer.

Look for next year to be a heavy heavy offensive draft.

Draft a 3rd String DT in the 1st round and double dip on 6th round CBs in the 2nd/3rd rounds.  He did the exact opposite of what hes been preaching for the past few years and reached for a position of need twice.  I get he likes these guys but he could have gotten them much lower in the draft.  He could have trade down the 2nd rounder and picked up the pick he needed to move up to get worley.  Just some really poor value.  I wont call them wasted picks because they may be good players.  Just horrible value.

They may be horrible value to someone but not the Panthers brass........

Gman stated in his presser that some conners were taken early that were not on our board.

If thats the case then ever conner behind them rises in value to the Panthers.

WHO sets draft value?

Exactly.

Gman stated in his presser......

There are quite a few players who don't make it to our board.

Players from a 3/4 D, one's who have talent but are dumb, can't conform to our scheme,

have injury, legal or character concerns....etc.

Thats the thing.......when you eliminate these players everyone below rises in value......

on the Panthers board.........not mel kipers.

In relation to how long the process takes, it's still a knee jerk reaction. Josh took almost three years to become JNo. You can be mad in 2019.

To be totally fair, most of the time he spent "becoming J-No", he was a very talented player but had a 10¢ head and couldn't get out of the doghouse. Many fans recognized his talent early on and kept complaining about his lack of playing time but the dude was simply an attitude issue and a walking talking personal foul. He finally got himself under control and out of the doghouse and exploded for us. I think expecting a 3 year learning curve is reasonable but not at all something set in stone like a typical DE would be. I can see these guys performing at an adequate or high level for us sooner than later. Not necessarily All-Pro good but well enough to replace the stats we lose with Josh moving on. And for much cheaper with less headache.

I am shocked that the people who always complain are complaining. Who would have guessed?

Not sure whom you are referring to but I haven't had anything negative to say about gettlemen until now.  But from the draft and free agency has this team really gotten better?  Has the pass rush improved?  Is the razor thin Oline that got clobbered in the superbowl any better?  I dont see it.  Right now, we have CJ and Ealy and then some hopes and prayers as depth for DE and the same oline, that did perform well last season but is an injury away from disaster.  When Kalil went down in week 8, Carolina was fortunate to have Fernando Velasco be able to step in but hes gone now.
