Sorry. Gettlemens Draft This Year Blows

I normally don't criticize drafts and I sure as hell hope it turns out well despite the clear lack of planning and good strategy. Here are my problems:

-clearly drifted (admittedly so) from BPA

-why did we do that? because we needed CBs. If we needed CBs so badly that we likely reached 3 times and altered from our typical drafting method it's because JNo isn't here. IF that is the result of JNos absence, we should have kept him around for one year under tag and drafted his replacement.

on another note: Gettleman needs to improve his business practices with his employees. I'm getting tired of players leaving CLT feeling that the manner in which they were let go was lousy. I understand it's a business, I think the players understand that as well but you can still treat people in a caring way and that doesn't seem to be happening yearly.

Gettleman said that we had 2nd round grades on the first two CB's that we drafted.  Given that, he actually did NOT reach.

Now, his grading on these two seem to be different than the "so called experts", and that can be a good discussion.  But, it appears that he still did not reach on these guys based on his own criteria.

So you believe that both of those CBs just happened to be the BPA?

Yeah 7-9 was a killer season.

I like Gettleman, I think overall he's done a good job but my god Panther fans have lost their fuging minds when it comes to him.

Good call being critical of a GM not even 2 years into a job of getting a team out of salary cap hell for winning an NFC South Division championship.

Also, if Riverboat Ron existed when Hurney was here....Gettlemen may not even be here.

people are quick to give Gettlemen all the love.  He has done a fine job but Ron making some simple changes has made us a winning team.  Fully believe Riverboat calls would have given him winning seasons his first couple years

He said that they had 2nd round grades on them....so based on that yes.  Also the fact that he moved up to get Worley strengthens that assertion.

Now, is that a smokescreen to cover his butt...possibly.  But, given his track record I tend to believe him.  But also....with his grade being diff than the experts, it ALL comes down to he thinks they fit this scheme.  It is yet to be seen if THAT is correct.

While I can appreciate the slack of sizzle with this draft, us fans too often get caught up with our favorite players in the draft.

Gettleman has no favorites, until he drafts them.  He said the other day in his news conference that the draft board is based on scheme and need as well as their over all quality.

So for us, CBs are more valuable.  CBs who have the traits to excel on zone coverage are more valuable than man guys.  Like with Butler, sure we didn't need another DT immediately, but his strength, length and motor will make the team better.  He's too good of a player not to draft.  It's the way he fits our scheme that makes him as valuable as his position on the Mel Kiper Jr. Draft Board.

It could very well be that this draft helps to solidify our defensive backfield for a few years.  If these guys can just become solid, it helps our defense a TON.  If not, well, here's the eggs...

That's kind of an all inclusive statement, and if true, would include your own mind, assuming you are a Panther fan.

The reality is that all fans who are pro Gettleman don't hold the exact same opinion, nor do those who don't trust him or don't like him.

As for the OP here, judging a draft before any of the players see a pro field is something the talking heads are forced to do, but as a fan, doing so is just painting a target on your butt. I'd rather wait and see what happens on the field myself.

Exactly....like another poster alluded to.....Gettleman farts more football knowledge after eating a burrito for lunch than the knowledge that every person on the huddle has together.

True, I should be more specific.

It's amazing how many Panther fans have lost their mind in regards to Gettleman.

Most GMs do. Doesn't make them right all time.

It's funny that people are trying to call out the GM for altering his own approach. It's his job to make the decisions however he sees fit. It's not his job to abide by mantras for the sake of pleasing you.

This draft will be judged a year + from now.
