 It's starting to seem like players or needs we may have or seem to have Gettlemen makes moves with the cockiness, confidence, or sheer true football knowledge that is superior to others in a manner where he knows he will fill positions with excellent UDFA year after year. Maybe simply from vigorous scouting he plans to acquire the best undrafted talent and expects them to contribute sooner then later. Does anyone else get this feeling from Daves moves?

I don't know about this Gentlemans fellow, but..

"I went camping with Dave Gettleman… I’m in the back of a pickup with Dave Gettleman and a live deer. Well, Gettleman, he grabs the deer by the antlers, looks at it and says, ‘I’m Dave Gettleman! Bene: We have him until 2018

Trio Draft Picks: Until 2020 to grow together. This will be probably one starter, one nickle and a back up that we can rotate in as necessary. 

Now we have stability in: 

Dline: I have a feeling we resign Star and KK. So we have stability there for DT. We have Ealy until 2018 and if one of the other guys pan out like Delaire, Cox or Miley we have semi stability with the DE.

LB: We have Luke and Shaq locked up for a while

With this draft we have the potential to have locked in a top 5 defense for the next 4 - 5 years. 

Cocky or not Im down with his choices!!

I think you have to view this as a practical draft that will pay long term dividends. Everyone wants a sexy draft where you land big names that you see on Walterfootball but the reality is those big name drafts don't matter if the players names are bigger than their fit and the scheme and talent. 

 

If I went back and watched tape on the 2015 Panthers I'd say we were pretty damn solid except for our blown 4th quarter leads and depth at defensive line and CB. What does Gettleman do? He brings in Soliai to back up Star and drafts Butler to back up KK and give us a deep rotation that replaces an aging Dwan Edwards. At CB we lost all-pro Josh Norman and likely Peanut Tillman, that's a big hole. We still had Bene and brought in a nickel in Boykin so we needed to add talent at the position. James Bradberry is a physical, tall prospect that will take time to develop but has high upside. Worley is more likely a convert to FS but he adds depth and talent to develop. Sanchez is a ball hawk that bites too much and pays for it but makes big plays on occasion, he also isn't a good match-up outside so you ask, why draft someone who loses jumpballs? Gettleman is looking into the future when Boykin is a free agent, Sanchez is his plan at nickel and will be able to learn. Cash is horrendous in coverage but has amazing tackling and blitzing skill, watch for him to be a situational player in year 1 and learn how to cover properly. If he develops his coverage game he could be our future SS, if not it's no water under the bridge since he's an UDFA.

 

So yeah, not a boom draft that'll rear 5 Rookie All-Pro's but a draft that builds our weaknesses and allows us to compete long term.

Being that he leans on his staff so heavy before pulling the trigger automatically tells me that he knows how to make excellent decisions!

With the Butler pick, each staff member had input! Each staff member was on board! GMan strikes me as a manager that is fine with disagreement and carefully evaluates opposing viewpoints. He is the epitome of successful leadership if these things are true.

The fact that he did so much investigation into Worley and dedicated so much time into him tells me that Worley was a premeditated and planned pick! He wasn't a name drawn from a hat

      Let's be completely honest about this... Our WR room is AT and a bunch of question marks. Thielen is the only guy we know who knows the route tree completely, understands play calls and can regularly get open/beat close coverage when necessary. He's long in the tooth, isn't the speediest guy on the field but he plays like a pro, starting level wide receiver. Xavier, last season looked great at first, but man he kind of petered out down the stretch and would disappear in a number of games. He wasn't reliable on routes or getting open and where he was supposed to be a king at contested catches, he often looked a bit intimidated. I'm not saying he's a washout by any means. Anyone with his size, speed and catch radius could make it big in the NFL, but can he do it? He'll need to show more than he did in the preseason before we can really rely on him as a WR1 or WR2.  Coker was a revelation last season, he really played way above his (non)draft status and flashed multiple times in games and was a steady performer. What we need to find out, though, is whether he was benefiting from being an unknown that wasn't getting maximum effort from opposing DBs or if he was just outworking and outhustling everyone on the field. We should find out this season. We sure as hell didn't find out much in the pre-season (from him or any receiver or QB for that matter). He's still a question mark, but I think he has the look of the real deal. He might be this generation's next Thielen. Now, let's talk about Tet. High first round draft pick, first true WR off the board this year. Stellar career out west in college. Has the swagger of the WR1. And man, y'all are going to get mad about this but... he comes across as a mook. And in the pre-season he performed, well, not so great against poor opposition of second and third stringers. Yeah, he caught that one moonshot ball in the first game but really, nothing else lighting the place up. Rookie endzone drop in that game, too. He's still young and adjusting, I'm sure, but I was hoping to see something of a breakthrough kind of guy. I'm still looking. Hunter Renfro? Gosh, I hope he can make the team and make a comeback to his old form. It would be such a great story. But maybe neither one of those happens. We won't know until Tuesday and then, if he makes it past there it could be weeks. So, TL;DR: AT is all we can bank on right now. We couldn't afford to let him go considering the number of unknowns we'd be throwing out there for our QB, who himself is still an unknown. One thing to add: Our receivers coaching group has their work cut out for them. I hope they are up to the task, but the pre-season gave me little reason to believe in them. And I really need something to believe in here in Carolina.

      Same I think Randsom is a baller..... hopefully we don't have to suffer through 4-8 games of Scott blowing azz to get him on the feild.

      Linebacker is the biggest need - I hope we figure out a way to address it. Krys Barnes is the only one who even moderately flashed.  Super nervous about Trevin/Rozeboom as a duo (Still like Trevin) I'd be excited if we had a better vet to mentor Trevin.  Or a better younger guy to support Rozeboom.  They just don't fit well and it may be a big problem against the run, even with our DL much improved.
