2 Open Roster Spots - where do we need more depth?

It's really two different positions/roles. The receiving TE and the TE/FB hybrid. It's not uncommon for us to keep 4, so 7 in camp isn't too high. Comes down to 5 receivers (1 lock, 4 competing for 2 spots) and two blockers (1 spot). I'd also consider putting Rockhead (who has a background at TE) in the latter category, because a lot of that role is fullback duties.

The fullback designation on this team is always confusing. In recent years, our only FB has been really a big RB who can catch like a TE, while the guy often playing fullback has been listed at TE. So a lot of interchangeable pieces there.

To answer your question, another OT is the top need, preferably a vet to go with our collection of tryout-level players. Second would be DB, not sure which of CB or Safety I'd prefer. Obviously there's a new need at CB, but they may go internal with McClain, Young, or the newly acquired Shaq Richardson.

The only real known quantity we have at Safety is Coleman, though Boston has played well. Switching out Dowling for Dixon does nothing, and I think the Colin Jones experiment may be over. They really like Marlowe and Ball, so hopefully one pans out. Lastly is Trenton Robinson who has starting experience, but wasn't really very good even given the chance. There's probably 4 roster-able players there, but no one really stands out as a second starter.

Colin Jones wasn't brought in to improve our S situation.

Dave admitted our special teams sucked because we didn't have special team guys and just made depth play it.   So added guys like Jones to play special teams.  Due to injury we were forced to ask him to do more than his purpose

I wouldn't bet on this. He's most likely our best ST player (who doesn't kick), and is serviceable (if not very good) at both safety and nickel (who we cut). That being said, that may not be enough to keep him around for 1 more year,  especially if we have to hide developmental players on our roster (Cash and Garrett) like we did Wegher last season. Good players are already getting cut from this team.

Yeah that's kinda what I'm getting at. Good ST player, but the team doesn't really trust him at nickel anymore (see: Finnegan, Cortland).

Right, I just don't know if we still have the space for multiple DBs who are really only special teamers (Jones and Teddy Williams). I'm sure both were anticipated to play a role as depth at their respective positions (as Jones was in 2014); but when injuries hit and their numbers would've presumably been called, they were instead replaced by McClain and Finnegan, straight off the couch.

Now that we're sure of the limits of their roles, it's hard for me to imagine us keeping them both. Worth noting that one of only 3 UFAs from last season, Jason Trusnik, was brought in as a special teams ace, but he fell victim to the numbers game and was one of the final cuts.

Gotta figure Bene, the rooks, Coleman, and Boston are likely safe, then guys like Marlowe, Robinson, McClain, etc. Point being, we may keep one of Williams or Jones, but it may be tough to keep both with our CB and S positions so up in the air.

OT and OT.

Prefered both be LT, but I understand it's very difficult to find worthly ones. Still whats currently LT depth on the roster is scary..... Frenchie and camp fodder, just terrible. I wish Dave would have done for the OTs what he did for the CB group in the draft.

I figured out the solution!!!!!!!1!1!1 TD went to the draft= shaq. Chris gamble went to the draft = bradberry. Soooo Jordan gross must be at the draft next year! :)

IMO we don't need to go back to weak special teams and revert back to our old ways....because we want to add a ton of DBs that potentially could play (which means you don't have a DB that can)

For the love of God, cut Williams! The man can't seem to stay in bounds on kick offs and is apparently useless at CB. At least Jones is a good ST player.  I wouldn't be surprised if Jones got cut, but I don't think it's a foregone conclusion. Of course with Dave, what is.
