Ali was so much more than a fighter. He was so much that Sugar Ray Robinson wasn't.  Ali was the greatest of all time not just the greatest of his time.  Robinson could be named the best pound for pound fighter because he fought in several divisions and won many titles (meaning he lost them too) and had a terrific career. His best days were at welterweight and middleweight. It is hard to compare him to heavy weight fighters who are built differently and fight differently as well.

In the boxing world it's not really an unwelcome opinion. I do like the clever take on particle man however. I'll drop it though as I can tell this isn't the place to discuss boxing.

Saw many of his fights and some of his Cosell interviews when they happened. Those were something to see.

Ali was champ back when boxing was king. In those days, every heavyweight fight was a world stopping event.

He absolutely was the greatest.
