At one point not too long ago, you couldn't enter any thread about the guy without sifting through a wasteland of witless exercise bike quips. Insinuating he is made of glass isn't all that constructive either. We get it, he's been dealing with this his whole career.

I agree.  I thought you were talking about this thread specifically.  Misunderstood.

Certainly the injuries are a concern. The ultimate reality is, Stewart may very well be playing his last season as a Panther in 2016 anyway. So I'm just hoping to see a strong performance from one of our other backs in preseason.

Yes, this could be his last season here, and I'm hoping its equally as strong as last season, stronger even.  I love watching Stew play, and how his presence positively affects each game, which is why I hate to hear news like that.  At the same time, I share the same hope that our young backs show us something really good in the preseason.

Not a good point. Peterson has had 2400 rushing attempts in his career to Stewart's 1300. Yes in 2014 Peterson blew out his ACL and played in only 1 game so the numbers are skewed but other than that year he's averaging nearly 15 games per season for his 9 year career as the feature back. Again, Stewart's work load has always been handled with kit gloves his entire career.

True, probably wasn't the best example.  Certainly he was handled with kid gloves for a period of about 2 years or so, but before that, (and I think for a little while after) he split carries with Williams and during the last 4 years, with Cam.  But you could probably go thru a list of each teams feature backs and see that Stewart hasn't been out any more than average.  Better than some, worse than others.  Stewart did miss most of two seasons, but other than that he has been averaging 13-16 games per year for his 8 seasons.  That's not bad for a running back.  Especially one with his running style.  Fwiw, I do think he probably could have played the last two games last year, at least for a few plays, but there wasn't much point in it.

No denying that Stewart is an integral part of the team. However, for our sake, his sucessor(s) needs to be on our roster right now. Do I trust the guys right behind Stewart to keep our run game productive enough for an offensive balance?

Gut feeling right now, no based on a small sample size. However, I had similar feelings about our receivers after losing KB.

I just didn't see why signing a 30-year old Bell (90-311yds-4TD) is worth giving money too instead of a 2nd year RB in CAP (45-183-1).  If you double Artis-Paynes carries, he would put up more than Bell's 311, and the former is 4 years younger.

Stewart's injury is yet another annoying setback, but he did some big damage, and it was only 4 months ago, today.  I think he needs to rest for as long as possible, and let the youngsters get some burn.  Bring him along slow (typical) and just live by the JStew mantra of 'It is What it Is.'
