“That foot just kind of lingered after he got bent over backwards in the Super Bowl,” Rivera said. “When he showed up it was still sore a little bit. When he started to run he said he could still feel it a little bit.”

It’s the same foot Stewart sprained late last season, causing him to miss the final three regular-season games.

Rivera said the Panthers are being cautious with Stewart, who ran for 989 yards and six touchdowns in 13 games in 2015. Stewart, 29, participated in positional drills Tuesday, but did not appear to be involved in the team portion of practice.

“Lately he said he’s been feeling really good, so (Tuesday) he got a good dose of it,” Rivera said. “We’re really trying to be smart with that and I wouldn’t say it’s 100 percent, but it’s almost there.”

A good "ugh" gif would be appropriate after reading this.

Unless he completely tore some ligaments in that foot, four months is a pretty long time to still be painful like that.  I'm just hoping we don't get surprise news that he needs some kind of surgery to repair something.

that was only four months ago, for some perspective. he's got another three to go before it really matters.

If it was anyone else then, yeah, no big deal, but Stew has had a history of lingering foot issues. I really don't like this news.

This. It sucks, but last season may ha e been a fluke. He's had consistent foot/ankle issues dating all the way back to his college days.

If I'm not mistaken, you can find reports of ankle issues going back to high school.

He also has a history of being a great RB for us despite these issues and shows up to play.

His heart isn't the issue.  Nobody can really argue that he's not a beast, when he's on the field.  3 full seasons, out of 8, doesn't mesh well with that assessment though.  That's what makes this news very concerning, for me at least.
