5 Years of Saltiness (A Cam Newton Hater's Timeline)

Recommended Posts

I kind of brought it on myself as I visited the comments section of an NFL.com article but it really got to me as there are people still worried about his "attitude" from 4 months ago. Needless to say I felt compelled to post this timeline dubbed the "5 Years of Saltiness":

2011: Cam won't make it in the NFL (sets NFL rookie records, wins ROY)
2012: He will never be anything more than an average QB (makes Pro Bowl)
2013: He can't lead his team to the playoffs (12-4 regular season, playoff birth)
2014: He has no heart and he can't win a playoff game (wins a playoff game with a busted ankle and ribs, weeks after a car crash)
2015: He will never take his team past the first round (NFC Championship, SB appearance, and NFL MVP)
2016: He can't win the big one

Not sure the doubters will realize the trend here but damn does this make me feel good. It isn't going to be easy but there is little doubt in my mind (aside from an injury) that Cam is bringing home SB51 for SM51.

look at how peyton manning was perceived now vs. before he won his rings, the first of which actually came somewhat later (his eighth or ninth year i think) in his career.

he was a huge, immensely marketable star and already a legend in indianapolis, of course.  but i clearly remember there being a loud faction who branded him a bad teammate (this reached a fever pitch after the "protection problems" presser), a choker, and a stat padder who beat up on a lousy division.  allegedly he would always fold under pressure and would never win anything that mattered, only individual and regular season accolades.

of course now he's the second best quarterback of his generation behind brady with two rings of his own.

"They" will never love our guy like we love our guy.  Stop waiting on that to happen.

I thought we were ready to embrace the hate?  Be the heels?  I'm ready.

Fug the NFL, fug the media, fug the fans.  "They" bout to gag on this C1N dick.

This is where I would add the gif of Cam throwing ones from the club ... Couldn't have said it any better.

I don't really care anymore. He's proven himself via his play on the field. I'm sure even Peyton Manning and Joe Montana had haters.

Brady gets a lot of hate too lol most Qbs face adversity either through media or other fans. There are a few NFL golden boys who are well liked by everyone Russell Wilson and A Rod come to mind

Pie to the thread starter. Seeing that trend made me smile.

As for the hate he receives....embrace it. Embrace it because he will always have those who will dislike him or find something wrong with anything he does. Mafugas never loved us!

Whenever I go out to watch a panther game at a bar, there's always a group that will let it be known they don't like Cam. I like to sit near that group. I sit near them, and whenever cam makes a great play I'll do Cam's first down point. They can't stand that ish.

    • I feel like this trade just lives rent free in people's heads and keeps morphing into different things. First thing is that the rumored trade was for future firsts. They wouldn't have any extra picks in 2023; the firsts would have been for 2024 and 2025. With very few exceptions, NFL GMs don't value picks that far away. You have to have a lot of job security to pull that off. Like Chiefs, Eagles, Rams kinda stability. That's obviously not the case with David Tepper, especially since he'd just fired his head coach. No GM except for like Howie Roseman is going to trade an asset you have now for a future asset you probably get to use.  Second, at the time you'd have to assume these are first rounders late in the first round. Obviously currency is currency and the panthers need young players, but these weren't slam dunk top ten picks. At the end of the day there's one pick that separates a first and second round pick.  Lastly, the only place that ever reported this trade was the Rams. All the reporters just repeated what McVay said and it became gospel. We have no idea how serious the negotiations were, if they ever really happened, if the offer was real, etc. And I personally believe McVay and Sneed are the kind of guys who would make up rumors like that to fug up other teams, mostly because I assume if I've thought of it someone smarter than me has.  I don't know how you'd call it the greatest draft haul of all time. Firsts quickly lose their value the farther out they are and Burns had 16.5 sacks last season. And anyway those picks would probably just been tossed into the burning inferno of the Bryce trade up so it's a moot point anyway.
