I don't honestly know whether they've made a concerted effort to do this or not.

My general belief was that they just hired whom they considered the most qualified person available and it just fell out this way.

Could be wrong. Don't know.

I agree.

Hire people who can do the job. Give them what they need to succeed.  Get out of their way and let them do their job.

Or something along those lines.

I can see why you'd see things that way, but I don't believe that this situation is so black and white (perhaps a pun or two unintended, intended, and steeped in irony).

I'll just leave it at that.

63% of the US is white (so sayeth the google) So any team who's coaching staff hovers around 60-65% white seems to be in line with the overall demographics of the US.

I personally don't give a poo what color you are as long as you're the best dude for the job. When McDermott gets a head coaching job (which I'm sure he will within the next 3 years) I fully expect Wilks to take over as D-Coordinator. I don't think he'll get it because he's black, I think he'll get it because he's the next best guy for the job moving forward.

No seriously. If you look at the chart, you'll notice a couple of interesting stats:

  • Overall record for top 5: 48-32
  • Overall record for bottom 5: 34-46
  • # of top 5 teams with 10 wins: 3
  • # of bottom 5 with 10 wins: 2
  • # of top 5 teams with dumba$$ owners: 0
  • # of bottom 5 teams with dumba$$ owners: 2 (3 if you include Pat's Kraft)

    • Rags lost again. All is right in the hockey world.
    • He’s responsible for two drafts classes. The first was one of the worst drafts I’ve ever seem. The second one is showing a ton of promise. I’m somewhere between skeptical and hopeful on Morgan.
    • I'm a big fan of Dan. His ability to find productive players deep in the draft will pay off.  I'm going to give him 1.5 draft classes right now, because I do think it's a little unfair to evaluate his first year when he got the job in January, especially when we went into that draft not having a first round pick.  XL and Brooks are still big time TBD players. Both still have incredibly high ceilings, but both have also given us legitimate reasons to have a lot of pause. Trevin Wallace, Chau Smith Wade and Jatavion Sanders have IMO outplayed their draft position early in their careers. That's a great thing. He also got Coker and Demani Richardson as UDFAs that year. Given the situation we were in, I really don't mind the gamble on the high ceiling guys. Still may work out, still may not, but if you made a checklist of ideal situation for an NFL GM to walk into, ours was near the bottom of that list.  Every single 2025 pick is contributing in some way. That typically doesn't happen. I am absolutely blown away by this draft class 6 games in. Even the best GM's miss on occasion, and we can't expect Dan to be 100% on drafts moving forward. Ryan Fitzgerald was an excellent find as well.  Comparing our last two drafts to the previous few is pretty shocking. Can you imagine this season without our Rookies? It would not be good. Additionally, this roster only has 6 players with more than 6 years of experience, and two of those are specialist.  The next step is equally important, and still very much TBD. We have to avoid Cap Chaos.
