Would the Panthers need to make room to keep Damiere?

Can't believe Hill is an afterthought after being so highly talked about all offseason and last week during the first few days of camp.

What gives?

Byrd apparently started camp poorly and has finally put together a couple good days. Happy for him, but I don't see why he is an option over Hill at this juncture.

Ultimately we need the games to be played to see who the pretenders are.

Who talked about him this offseason? What was there to talk about since he didn't participate? He wasn't cleared until the day before training camp.

I think what you noticed was a lot of wishful thinking. The guy had a really bad knee injury.

If we carry 6 then Byrd, Bersin, and Norwell will fill those last 2. If he can return a punt I think he's got one of those spots.

There's a ton of time and key events that to come that will determine these things in the next month.

If we're going to remain a top offense we will need to be be moving the chains on first and second down more often than third.

Why would I put in Bersin? Well let's just say we're 2nd and goal from the 8 yard line. We've got Kelvin split out wide running a fade and we've got Funch opposite side running an out route or a post to the goal post. Who do I want in the slot running my dig/slant? Do I want Ted butter finger Ginn coming across the middle trying to haul in a Cam missile? Philly is on the sideline he's out of breath from hauling in a 45 yard bomb 2 plays prior. Seems like a perfect time for Ron to call on his sure handed sunshine.

We are probably gonna run it or PA to Olsen/Sandland.

I could be mistaken, but Jeremy.

I don't go off what every Tom, Dick, and Harry says on here.

And I'm talking about the beginning of camp. Just interesting how he can go from one end of the spectrum to opposite within just a few days. Just an observation, that's all.

The coaches will pick the best 53 and I won't be butthurt with their selections.

No you're right, he was talked about a lot as a leader to make it as the #5.

I don't totally blame people, if you do a google search for his injury, at the time it was widely called just an ACL tear, like KB's. Now if you look you start to see the reports of 3 ligaments.

Two big guys (KB, Funchess)

One medium guy (Philly)

Two fast guys (Ginn, Byrd)

I like that, I like that a lot.

Seriously, that is one impressive line up. Just think of the mismatches Shula can create with that much talent at WR to go with our all world QB and TE. I'm predicting that, after this season, Shula's detractors will be shut up once and for all.

All I heard was that he had some drops and then the issues with his knee.

I thought it was reported that he was getting behind the defense (caught a 50 yard bomb from DA) and that he was catching everything (during the first "week" of camp).

Then he tweaks his knee again, drops some passes, and is now written off entirely by those in the know.

I must admit that I love a good redemption story, and I hope Hill isn't another example of a knee injury putting a receivers career to rest. Here's to his luck and health (and hands) moving forward, because it can only help the team having a 6'4" guy with deep speed.

Byrd, though he gets a lot of his own hype, hasn't looked "4.28" fast on the field to me. It's all about that initial burst, and last preseason I don't recall being impressed by him. Maybe that is a result of the positions he was put in, but there are a ton of tiny fast guys who's track speed just doesn't show on the field. I hope his speed can translate, and ultimately, I hope he is actually a solid football player and not just some fast guy from South Carolina.

On the same day I heard he looked good from one media source and bad from another.

I honestly believe it's a result of the Twitter type reporting. If a player does 20 drills and makes one big play we definitely hear about it. But what happened during the rest? What stands out to a fan or media guy Tweeting highlights likely isn't what the position coaches look at.  We get little blurbs but the team is evaluating constantly.

Move the chains, third down, it's all the same. Why would you put Bersin in over any of the other WRs?

This isn't last year's offense. KB and Funchess developing change it significantly.

Why in the world would a team put a guy in who is great at moving the chains when they need to move the chains....I swear some of you are one notch above brain dead.

When do you not need to move the chains...?

Ginn 16.8 YPC, 36 first downs

Funchess 15.3 YPC, 24 first downs

Philly 14.4 YPC, 24 first downs

Olsen 14.3 YPC, 52 first downs

Benjamin 13.8 YPC, 50 first downs (2014)

Bersin 13.2 YPC, 5 first downs

Cotchery 12.4 YPC, 26 first downs

If Bersin didn't get on the field last year he sure as fug ain't this year. But you can keep wanting us to put a less talented player on the field on more critical plays.

Wait wait wait, one more time....
