Cam is Not a Top Tier QB...

Well, at least according to 42 league insiders, 10 general managers, 5 head coaches, 7 offensive coordinators, 5 defensive coordinators, 8 personnel evaluators and 7 other position coaches and executives.

Cam was placed in Tier 2. Which is complete BS. HE IS THE REIGNING MVP!

Here are the Tiers that were used to evaluate the QB's:

Tier 1: Can carry his team each week. Team wins because of him.
Tier 2: Can carry team sometimes but not as consistently.
Tier 3: Legit starter but needs heavy run game/defense to win.
Tier 4: Might not want this guy starting all 16 games.
Tier 5: Do not think this guy should be starting.

Eighteen of 42 voters placed Newton in the top tier. Some of the others said they would follow suit if Newton played at a high level over the course of a full season. Newton ranked 24th in Total QBR and had a 53.7 completion rate through Carolina's first eight games last season, but thanks to a stellar Carolina defense, the turnovers Newton committed rarely cost the Panthers. Carolina allowed 32 points off 19 turnovers, good for a league-low 1.7 points allowed per turnover. That was a huge reason Carolina got off to a 14-0 start.

None of the 42 insiders brought up the way Newton bailed from the postgame interview session after Carolina's Super Bowl defeat. The vision of that widely panned incident did come to mind when some voters described Newton as a front-runner.

"It is a resounding 1 for me," said a defensive coordinator who has faced Newton multiple times. "Guess who is the cornerstone of their running game? It's Cam Newton. Guess who is the cornerstone of their passing game? It's Cam Newton. Who are his wide receivers? He has [tight end] Greg Olsen. How about anybody else? He goes out there and gets it done consistently. He has a big, powerful arm. He is not a great passer, but he is a great thrower. He can carry your football team."

"He has rare energy when things are going good," a GM said. "It is as good as it gets, and he can lead when he is out in front. When things aren't going well, that is when he makes mistakes. He has bad energy for the team, he sucks the life out of it. He is a manic quarterback. But as long as his defense performs, as long as big plays are made that bail him out, that will always re-energize him."

There are 20 teams that don't make the playoffs every year.  Then there are teams that haven't made the playoffs in over a decade.  I think it's safe to say some of those perennial losers had their head coaches and GM's polled on this survey.  I value their input on what's elite about as much as I value Tolbert's opinion on portion control at dinner.

I guess Cam needs to have another season like last year and win the SB to get his full props from everybody. I still remember last year they was fronting on him being a possible MVP. I forgot who they was claiming was over him or no I think they said Cam HAVE to stay undefeated to be the MVP and he just continued to explode and had everybody mouth completely closed.

Elitism from the big media markets fuels this. No one in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, and other major markets wants to hear their QB sucks and these small market team QBs are better. Cam challenges their belief system, and they don't like it

    • Saw this show up in my new feed. Nice to see a couple of our rookies making it into the top 5 so far, even if it is a pff measure... From https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-top-15-rookies-week-9-2025 ... 4. TE Mitchell Evans, Carolina Panthers (78.7) Evans struggled in the Panthers’ tight win over the Packers, finishing with a 41.8 PFF overall grade — third worst among tight ends this week. He was not targeted in the game and played only one snap in pass protection. He did log 15 run-blocking snaps, and although he earned a 68.9 PFF run-blocking grade in zone looks (seven snaps), his 39.0 mark in gap schemes (second worst for the week) dragged him down to a 46.6 PFF run-blocking grade overall — sixth worst for the week. Despite seeing zero targets over his past two games, Evans still leads the Carolina tight end group with a 74.3 PFF receiving grade. He has caught all nine of his targets for 90 yards, six first downs and two touchdowns. Evans also leads the Panthers’ tight end group in PFF run-blocking grade (72.2). He has recorded a 20.5% positive play rate across 175 snaps.  5. WR Tetairoa McMillan, Carolina Panthers (78.6) McMillan had a better day against the Packers, recording four catches for 46 yards. Most of that production came in the first quarter via two 16-yard catches — one of which he snatched from Carrington Valentine’s hands, who was in perfect position to break up the pass. McMillan accounted for three first downs on the day, although Green Bay was able to limit his impact after the catch, holding him to 0.8 yards after the catch per reception. McMillan now has 41 catches for 558 yards — a top-15 mark. He is also tied for second with 19 explosive gains of 15-plus yards. Three of McMillan’s catches against the Packers came between the numbers, bringing him to 22 for 318 yards and 19 first downs (tied for second most) this season. He owns a 26.1% threat rate and a 76.6 PFF receiving grade between the numbers. He also ranks in the top 10 in explosive gains (10) and yards after the catch per reception (5.5) within that area of the field.
    • At least we don't need to hear overreacting about towels ...
    • Actually there is, try being a Charlotte Hornets fan. I mean the team fuging moved at its peak and hasn't recovered since and that was 25 years ago
