Not only did we let Norman walk but we didn't replace him with some veteran players and went with rookies. I told everyone that both moves would bite us in the butt and like usual I was right on both counts.

but, if you didn't co-sign gettleman's move, no one probably read it and they hate to be reminded of it...  at least that's what I've been running into.

Every CB gets burned but you shoud check out the opposing #WRs stat sheet when they faced Norman supermajoirty of the time it was low.

There is no denying that for sure, but at the same time, he had pressure on almost every play.  It also doesn't help that we play 7-10 yards off in every down defense and 10+ off on 3rd. We give up slants all day long, quick passes that make corners look really bad because they are in the coverage called.  I'm not gonna say Norman was garbage, but his mouth got him in the spotlight, Same as Sherman

This is the kind of thread that makes me hate the huddle.

Congrats on being right about a week 4 loss the year we lost our best corner.

This is the worst our entire DEFENSE has looked since Rivera got here. They all played like poo. This isn't about Norman, there is something entirely wrong with our defense and it starts from the lack of pass rush.

If next year our corners still look as bad as they did this week against the hottest offense in the NFL, then please, feel free to gloat. But this is so incredibly short sighted and stupid that it makes me wonder how someone like you was ever given the ability to moderate this forum.

I'm mad at Gettleman for the lack of pass rush this year. Not for letting Norman go. Norman wouldn't have made much of a difference today.

If I remember correctly, there were a number of us who felt that letting Norman go was a big mistake. My contention was Gettleman was full of himself and thought he could play tough guy and just interchange player pieces with no issues in ability or chemistry. I hope he is reminded of this when he lets Short walk and thinks Butler can just walk it and there won't be any effect on the defense either. We went from a tip 10 defense with Norman to a bottom 10 defense without him.

I'm not gloating, I'm stating facts.  I'm bringing up what was said to remind so many that they were absolutely sure letting Norman go was strictly business and that Gettleman made the right move.  I disagreed on both fronts and 4 weeks in, it's looking more and more like he was wrong, and there is no denying that.  The fact that it makes people angry at me for bringing it up instead of being angry at our GM who flew off the handle and publicly embarrassed and humiliated our all-pro cornerback and then GLOATED about it to national media is more telling about the huddle and our fanbase than anything.

It's the same mentality that has people scared to stand up and cheer in our stadium lol.  We should all just shut up, sit down, and take what they give us, eh?

And no offense CM, but you have been one of the ones waiting around to post anything you could possibly find to justify letting Norman walk/any disparaging news about his play, so I'm not exactly going to take your observation about it being strictly pass rush as objective.

We are 4 weeks in and our defense is ass.  4 weeks is a quarter of a season.  That isn't all that short-sighted.  We basically have the same front seven, so what is the one big loss from the offseason that could be affecting our defense?  LOL, it is so obvious, but don't let me tell you...  I think Matt and Julio's record day has.

Yessir...  and apparently many of the great football minds here have never learned what a coverage sack is either.  Apparently the same front seven minus mid-season acquisition Jared Allen aged 10 years over one offseason according to them, because Josh was a product of the system apparently, lol.

Not saying josh wouldn't perform at a high level.  But we have ZERO pass rush in the first half. Matt had all damn day to throw it was embarrassing.

the double A blitz and safety blitzes work better when you have at least one CB out there that the opposition is fearful of throwing to.

They will steer clear of the LBs, they will steer clear of a player like Norman, they will steer clear of double/triple coverage, and this gives the LBs and DBs that extra time to break down the blocking schemes and open up the pass rushing DTs and DEs who can not do it on their own.

Now, they do not fear any of the Panthers DBs in single coverage. So, the Panthers can not cheat their secondary to one side of the field. This means the LBs and DBs can not blitz as effectively with more options and angles for the QB to get rid of the ball.

I guarantee you not many of us would have had a problem letting Norman walk had there been a adequate backup plan in place.....whether trade, signing a replacement or spending the damn money on a pass rush, all those options would have been 10x better then drafting 3 cb's and spending a first on a dt. I said after the draft and I'll say again when in the history of football has a team drafted 3 let alone 2 cb's in the same draft and both pan out ?? You could argue Atlanta but that's about it

While we knew we weren't going to be as good in the secondary this year, they are not the reason we are 1-3. That lies with our offense who not only returned all 11 starters but GAINED back Kevin Benjamin. This is our problem. We have the reigning MVP under center and we look like a below average offense. Not good. The one thing this team is capable of though is going on very long win streaks. Hoping we can do something similar like we did in 2013. We also started 1-3 that year and still made the playoffs.

You get the media attention to you. Go back and watch the old games from last year, he was burned up and down the field all day by most receivers, but with front 7 pressure, qb had to dump ball off short  or throw off balance and off target.

All I know is that people who knows about football and actually playing at that level  said he is elite talent i'll take that credibility over any huddle post.
