Another game, another miss for Gano

Gano actually had a pretty decent game today. Missed one 49 yard kick, but made 2 out of three.

But just out of curiosity, who would you replace him with? I mean its great to say get rid of him, but you actually have to bring in someone to replace him who is better. I would have loved to get Gould, but he is no longer an option. So who?

66% on the day. That should up his FG% on the season.

Oh wait. nvm.

$4m kicker.

11 kickers are paid 600k or less. 6 are for playoff contenders. 7 of them are more productive than Gano.

The three top paid kickers are Gano, Janikowski, and Gostkowski. They are all below 80%, and they are lucky if they have a season in the 90% range in 1 of every 3 seasons.

A 600k kicker has the same chance/rate at a 90% season as any of the top paid kickers.

Use that $3.5m wasted on a kicker for say a player with greater impact like a CB at the top of the league.

The panthers have people to find someone better. That's their job and should get to finding

True. We somehow snagged Andy MVP from the Browns, would like to see at least an attempt made instead of Ron chastising everyone saying he's fine despite the opposite.

I've defended Gano for a long time. But we need to explore options moving forward.

Also, it wouldn't be the huddle without someone steadfastly defending blatant mediocrity. It's like some people never learned after the 2010 season. Fug you, and your mediocrity right in the ear. Enough of this settling bullshit.

    • No one way to do it, it does appear that with the bigger draft picks of the last 5 years…..majority haven’t steered clear of young QBs on the roster being their hopeful guy. Especially past their rookie seasons but even some the biggest ones have had it early.   As far as Andy Dalton, the two young guys he has “mentored”…..have had very rough NFL starts.  Which really ask the why the heck is Dalton here.   He doesn’t really check any box.  No young potential.  Can’t step in and win.  And his mentor track record with Fields and now Bryce is bad
    • I had thought the Panthers might let him play out his contract this year and hope he stays healthy. If not draft a left tackle and move Ekwonu to right tackle.
    • Frankly, if most teams in the NFL lose their starting QB for a significant amount of time, they're screwed. The fantasy is that one has a future Tony Romo or a Nick Foles that can carry a stacked team. The reality is that you might get roughly 3~5 games out of your backup before it all falls apart. Remember all of Peyton Manning's backups? Utterly terrible. Speaking of backup QB's, Raiders may need one. https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-qb-aidan-o-connell-suffered-fractured-wrist-in-preseason-finale-expected-to-be-out-6-8-weeks
