Still job interviewing...Bank of America

So, I have a job interview with BOA for a Relationship Manager position.  Anyone know what the interview is like with BOA?

They will do first interview with HR over the phone (usually 10 mins).  If HR likes you, they will give your info to hiring manager and schedule 30 mins phone interview with hiring manager (sometimes hiring manager will ask his/her boss to be present as well).  If hiring manager likes you, he/she will ask HR to schedule in person interview.  Usually, they bring 2-3 people for in person interview.  The two most common attributes they are look for are knowledge and character.  You gotta be confident and just relax.  Good luck :)

Also, BofA is slow... sometimes it will take up to three weeks to go from one stage to another.  Just be patient, HR will let you know when they know.  If you do not hear from them, likely hiring manager or HR is still interviewing.

I applied about 2-3 months ago.  Immediately they sent me an email saying I had passed the 1st stage and wanted me to take an online test...it took 60-90 min.  Then I heard nothing.   Got a call yesterday from I guess HR...she asked me a couple of questions, said hiring manager wants to move fast.  Interview on Monday and will know by the end of the week. They want someone in place 1st of January.

Know anything about the interview?  I interviewed with Wells..their interview was a behavioral format.  "Give me an example of when....."  Some very hard to answer because did not apply to previous work. They had 2 managers in the room.  I expect 2 for this one...they told me to bring 2 copies of my resume.

I had 3 interviews with BofA in one day at one point.  Different managers use different approaches, it's literally based on a manager desire what to use.  I'm in a different field of work so they cared about my experience and attitude. No behavioral questions.

Hope I get the same.  Hated those because they did not apply.

How did it go ?

BTW if you still haven't done the interview yet a decent way to prep is look up SBO interview questions.  Situation Behavior Outcome. That's a trend in forward thinking HR's.

Best of luck!

The interview is Monday.  After the day I had where I work now....I am very desperate to get out of there.

Thanks for the tip on SBO.  I need all the help I can get!

Had the interview. The guy was very informal...did not do the behavioral format...mentioned that he could but did not think he would. Preferred having a conversation.  The person who scheduled the interview was wrong. BOA has a hiring freeze and cannot make offers until after Jan.  There will be a 2nd interview with someone else if he liked me in the 1st. that would be about 2 weeks.

In any and all cases, the best advice I know to give is to simply be yourself, be honest and let the chips fall where they may.  If you don't know the answer to a question, say as much, but then relay what you do know wherever it applies.

Don't be afraid to clarify a question.  This can provide you two crucial pieces of information in real time:

     1) is this interviewer blindly abiding a form looking for specific answers or are they engaged in the interview?

    2) are these questions serving a purpose for assessing expertise or personality?

If a question doesn't appear to have a "right answer" then it is likely for the purpose of assessing personality.  An engaged interviewer is likely to look up (indicative of improvising a scenario) and then expound on a question that is particular to assessing you.  If they are looking for a specific answer, they likely have the details thoroughly mapped out and will deviate very little from the original question.

Also, this also lets an engaged interviewer know that you are not an automaton.  Most people I know that have a job but are looking for another job (not due to life changes like moving, marriage, etc) do so to escape what they perceive as an oppressive environment.  This helps set the table for yourself as you've let prospective employers know that you are capable of fulfilling your duties effectively without having to refer to a procedural manual at every turn.

It is not uncommon for managers to talk among themselves.  Even if one interview doesn't pan out with a job, if you make a good impression, the "failed" interview for one position may end up actually being a successful one for a different position within that same company.

Keep this in mind  lp. Sometimes they use the process to see how you handle adversity or a small roadblock or a sudden change.  If you seem rigid or respond negatively they take note.

But if you are flexible and keep things in perspective and are positive they also take note.

It's an inexact science.

    • FA may or may not be the best option each time. You know as well as I do that the LT is the highest paid position on offense behind QB and WR. If you have cap concerns, it would be better to draft a quality LT and hold him for 3-4 years before you have to sign him to a long term (and expensive 2nd contract). I wouldn't want to acquire a run stuffing DT in FA if I could get a younger one much cheaper in the draft.  Let's say no good Safties are on the market when prior to drafting. Once again you'd go to the draft. FA is a good way to feel out the roster prior to the draft, but it's possible to REACH there too. FO's usually end up over playing guys (at least at certain positions) who have already peaked. Besides, you always have to consider that the team that let them go didn't think they were worth the price they were asking to retain them. That certainly applies to our defense. We could draft the BPA at any level of our defense and immediately improve our team. A stud on the line beside DB would help the the run and pass defense. Our LB core needs a thumper/impact player at any position. We need another CB to play alongside JC. We have yet to see a Safety on our roster significantly impact a game this year.
    • Maybe Rod will change it up and slot Bussi in net. Why risk the inevitable injury to Freddie this early in the season against a team that will likely win regardless.  Just show up and play to win, that's all I ask.
    • Well, I feel the same way about pharmaceutical, junk/fast food and political ads. They all cause active and KNOWN harm to the populace but we are the penultimate corrupt Western country, so that's just where we are as a society.
