If we can convert some of that 5.5 base salary into bonus, add a dummy year, and get the cap hit down to the 6.0 range, I think he'll stick around.  But if Fornette is somehow still sitting there when we pick, the card will be in so fast they won't even have time to go to the typical "panthers are picking" commercial.  Then a pay cut will have to be on the table.

lol, pie for that.

JStew is way better than Fournette. I actually do not quite understand the love affair with him. The no name Wisconsin RB outplayed him when they lost to in Lambeau.

I would like to see JStew and Fournette as teammates. There was a significant drop off when Fozzy came in as the lead back. Fournette might not have the low center of gravity and balance that Stewart has but he is much faster and more dynamic.

With the cap space we have we will definitely keep him for the remainder of that contract, barring a serious injury of course. A cap hit for a back like Stewart in 2018 of 2.5 million is a huge bargain, especially for mentoring an upcoming RB. I also love seeing Stewart stiff arm the hell out of cornerbacks so I may be slightly biased.

If Stewart isn't here next season I'm burning some poo.

What if he retires?

In the past I would have all but guaranteed that Stew would be gone....fast forward to our young RB's not able to make the active roster, our O Line being a mess, and Cam getting the poo kicked out of him, and I'm not so sure.

Throw in our cap space, and I think he's probably a Panther for 1 more season.

Stewart will be a 30 yr old RB next year that carries a nice cap hit.  That rarely works out for teams.

He is just coming off one of the best games of his in years.  Fresh on people's minds.  You can go back a couple games a lot of people talked the polar opposite about him.

Can't expect what we saw Monday night next year.  I have always loved 28.  But I stick with the same ol matra.  Go young.

We would be better off in many regards finding our own David Johnson or Jordan Howard.  You don't need a first round pick to get legit RB in today's NFL.

I would have to think the odds of him retiring are pretty slim.

I keep seeing Huddlers speculating on draft picks or roster positions for year 2017 with Jonathan Stewart still on the roster in Carolina filling a role.

2017 will be the first year the Panthers could gain measurable relief from the 9.5 Million Dollar cap number Hurney left us with.

So in your opinion, will JStew be a Panther next year?

You've got to be kidding, right?

You seen any good replacements just hanging around?

I'd love to see him back in a RB rotation system like he shared with DWill, but it would take a helluva good running back to make that work as well again. You know, one like DWill.

Even as pretty much a solo act, Stewie is one of the most punishing running backs in the game. I hope he can do his entire career here. Durability has always been an issue with him, but sharing the lead runner duties can help that.

Nah duh!!!! We will suck without Stewart or someone better.

No way we go with Fozzy or Cap.

Shut the hell up already about Stew. He will be here next season. Why? Bc we fuggn need him.

I don't know why some guys just saying we don't need Stew, hell, he's a decent running back for years and he seems to stay healthy these two years. We'd better keep him for one or two years before our young guys grow up.
