I felt like the cheese was a little heavy in that installment. Molina definitely killed as Dr Oct but I couldn't get into it. That said, Spiderman 2 was 100x better than Spiderman 3...

This is true.  Spiderman 2 was good and Doc Oct is still the best Spider-Man villain we've seen on a movie.   I think 3 was so bad it ruined it forever for the others in my mind.

I've come to the realization that superhero movies ultimately just don't work like they should in the standalone format.

For as good as Maguire and Molina may have been, they'll always lack the grounding a shared universe could have given them.

The MCU concept revolutionized comic book movies and made them what we always hoped they could be.

These days, I can't imagine it being any other way.

Very good point. To me, it's the exact opposite in the comics. I feel the best spidey moment, or most heroes for that matter, are standalone. Sometimes, it doesn't work out in the movies and the MCU understands that.

Why the fug can't superhero movies work like James Bond films? A series of stand alone films where the thespians are replaceable, and never requires a reboot?

That seems the most logical way to approach them.

inadverdently, they're doing it. I can't think of any comic character that was brought to the big screen that only one actor portrayed him....Besides Hugh Jackman and Wolverine.

A good portion of the MCU.

Iron Man - Downey

Thor - Hemsworth

Black Widow - Johansson

Loki - Hiddleston

Etc.

Downey is is synonymous with iron man I think they just won't have him in MCU over trying to replace him with someone else as Tony Stark.

but they could easily just bring another version of iron man in there don't think they will though
