28. Joshua Garnett, RG, 49ers (Stanford)

Snaps: 655

PFF overall grade: 45.7

After entering the starting lineup in Week 5, Joshua Garnett has started 11 games for the 49ers at right guard, and struggled badly in both run blocking and pass protection. He has surrendered 33 total QB pressures, which is 10th-most among guards, despite playing four fewer games than most; only Arizona’s Earl Watford has a lower pass-blocking efficiency mark than Garnett’s 93.7.

29. Robert Nkemdiche, DT, Cardinals (Ole Miss)

Snaps: 82

PFF overall grade: N/A

A high-ankle sprain kept Robert Nkemdiche off the field early in the season, but he then found his way into head coach Bruce Arians’ doghouse, and has barely been seen all year.

30. Vernon Butler, DT, Panthers (Louisiana Tech)

Snaps: 204

PFF overall grade: 67.1

An injury limited Vernon Butler over much of the season, but he has played in the past six straight games, with 20-plus snaps in each. Over that time, though, he has flashed rather than performed consistently, with five total QB pressures and four defensive stops.

Has a panther player ever blocked two kicks in one season?

Not sure if Pep did or not. If anyone could have, it would have been him.

Butler has been panning out late in the season. It will be interesting to see him next year after he's had a whole year in the system.

Vern is going to be fine for us. We will retain star and kk and have him...future looks bright. Now hopefully we can get a solid de and safety and our defense will be legit.

According to that list, Butler did well for himself. There were only 6 Defensive players with better grades. 2S, 2CB, and 2DL, and all were in the top 15. So not bad for Butler.

Sure I wish we would have gotten more from him. But after seeing the improvement throughout the year. I can see a bright future for the kid.

Right. And in only 200 snaps

    • Damn I liked A'Shawn too. This is basically a heads up we're planning on cutting you move.  Robinson wasn't the best but I loved his attitude and effort on the field. He held that entire dline together when Brown went down iirc..granted we finished that season as the worst rushing defense in modern NFL history.  If Wharton would have performed up to atleast half of his salary last season, I'd feel a little better about it. We do need that cap space though.

They made the playoffs, but they're not yet knocking on the door. (Offense was 26th in EPA/play.) I think it's imperative they don't overestimate where they are in their build. They can't throw a ton of money around in FA to "make a run now". They need to be intentional about building a solid foundation. (IMO) And from what I know about the team... I think they will be. Sidenote: I have my eye on offense there, not defense. They HAVE to leave next season with a strong opinion on Bryce Young. They need to put pieces around him to do that. Can't be left wondering what he would have looked like with "better OL play" or "more pass catchers". They have to know. (That part is purely my opinion. No one told me that.) https://x.com/lindsay_rhodes/status/2027212533417869499?s=46&t=xeIgh_-Vr2aKxBkBJdfnKA
    • Because this DL is completely reliant on Brown being available and being a stud. Without him we were the worst D in history. The Wharton signing last year reeked of desperation. He just isn't a great fit for us schematically and I think we panicked a little bit when we missed out on Milton Williams who would have been a great fit.
