Realistically fixing the Panthers next year.

Jamal Adams or Jabril Peppers will be available for us at 9. I'm so excited about having a legit SS to pair with Coleman.

For OT I think you sign Matt Kalil and draft a guy mid round shot in the dark. OT is so thin. Cam Robinson and the guy from Wisconsin are guys that should be going late 20's early round 2, they just aren't elite.

DE: JPP or Judas Peppers

Round 2: TE Leggett or Howard

CB: vet is needed here. A good communicator, leader

WR: slot threat needed. Switzer mid rounds?

what are you guys smoking?...we need lineman, good ones, on both sides of the ball

We do. But I think draft wise you take impact players. Bad year for both lines IMO after the first 3 DE come off the board. We should never draft based soley on needing a certain position. We need impact players especially with the first two picks.

Right. If we weren't able to get a deal done last offseason, what will change this offseason?

Gman will tag him and let him walk after next year when he will be 28 and Vernon Butler will be ready to replace him.

Man, part of me could live with that. But, there is a part of me that does not want to lose him. Pressure up the middle is just something you don't let go. IMO, we need to get a deal done.

KK is a player you have to have. But only if the money is right. Well, paid I can live with. Highest paid, may be a tad steep for me.

Man, I hate you got me thinking about this.

I'd be just fine with this.

Give me Conor McDermott or Tyrell Crosby for the mid-round OT, Peppers for a stop-gap DE, and hell yes to Switzer. Not only would he give us a legit slot guy, but he could replace Ginn as the punt returner too. For a career punt returner, Ginn has looked absolutely awful back there for awhile now.

I'd franchise him for a year and then let him walk before I made him the highest paid DT in the league. That doesn't even require any hand wringing from me.

Really?  The disdain for Pep has now become comical. Lol/smh

I've said that since he left man. It's a light hearted poke. I'd love to have him back here to finish out his career. I was a little hurt by his decision to leave, yeah. Ive lived in NC my whole life, pull for the heels, cats, and the buzz, I wanted to see him only play for his home state team..But he's cool.

Well, to be fair, I did say, well paid. I want him here, and I value his position, and his talent. But, I can only pay him so much. If he can live with that, he is more than welcome to stay. If he needs more money, we will hate to seem him go.

If we get cyp il go nuts. I love that dude.

I like him a lot too. Love him coming out of college. Problem is he hasn't really live up to expectations, but it is the Jaguars. And, we've soon that backups can come and rejuvenate their career here in the secondary. Cyprien should not cost us an arm or leg.

So with the season about to close for the Panthers I would like to go over some ideas of returning to our greatness. Here are some of my realistic move we might be able to make in the off-season.

While offense has been the focus this year honestly improving that unit drastically would require a good bit of luck or big money with risk. So while I would love to upgrade the line it's probably not going to happen. So here are my marginal improvements for offense.

1.TE

While Greg is going to be a HOF TE we need another weapon and blocker for our mediocre oline. A TE that has good hands and can seal a edge once and a while. A SECOND TE WHO CAN COME IN AND BLOCK AND STILL BE AN OFFENSIVE THREAT IS NEEDED.  DICKSON SUCKS.  BUTT (THE LAST THREE WORDS ARE NEARLY PORNOGRAPHIC) FROM MICHIGAN IN THE SECOND ROUND (IF THERE) WOULD BE A NICE ADDITION.

2. FB/H-back  TOLBERT IS NOT A LEAD BLOCKER.  IN THIS OFFENSE, WE NEED ONE.  IMAGINE NORWELL PULLING AND SOME STUD PUNCHING LBS IN THE MOUTH.  WE HAVE HAD 2 IN CAMP OVER THE PAST 2 CAMPS AND WE CUT THEM...MISTAKE, IN MY OPINION.  I EVEN WONDERED HOW SOMEONE LIKE MAYO MIGHT DO IN LIMITED SITUATIONS...

Tolbert is as good as gone and we need a TE or FB who can catch and seal blocks for Stewart.

3.WR

I look for the Panthers to draft another WR like Mike Williams to push KB and Funchess. FA might be a possibility as well with extra cash this year.  IF WE LEARNED ANYTHING THIS YEAR, IT IS THAT BENJAMIN AND FUNCHESS ARE EITHER RAW OR THEY ARE BUSTS.  BENJAMIN WAS A NEGATIVE, FOR THE MOST PART, IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT.  FUNCHESS WAS INCONSISTENT.  GINN IS STILL THE #1....SAY NO MORE.  WILLIAMS COULD BE THERE WHEN WE PICK, AND HE WOULD BE A GREAT PICK.

OK so on to defense. This unit in 2016 took a 180 with the loss of leadership and injury bug taking its bite. While we might not be able to fix all the ailments it's important to fix as many as possible.

1. Sign KK  YES.  HE GETS IT DONE.  STAR TOO.  GET THEM BACK ON THE ROSTER.  MONEY?  AS MUCH AS I HATE TO SAY IT, WE HAVE A RB THAT AVERAGES 3.8 PER CARRY AND 65 YARDS PER GAME MAKING $7 TO 8m PER YEAR.  I AM GUESSING THAT WE WILL HAVE TO LET A VET GO TO KEEP A VET...STAY TUNED.

While he totally disappeared in 2016 he is still a much needed defender and will come at a much lower price than in 2015. KK WAS DOUBLED, WHICH LED TO MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR STAR, ADDISON, DAVIS AND LUKE.  PAY HIM A DECENT WAGE.

2. Sign Kline and Mayo. I DOUBT WE SIGN KLEIN OR ADDISON THIS OFFSEASON.  THEY CAN GO FROM ROLE PLAYERS TO STARTERS ELSEWHERE.

With the uncertainty of keek we need to make sure Mike will be secured no matter what. WE HAVE SOME DECENT TALENT AT LB THAT HAS BEEN BURIED, SO ALL IS NOT LOST HERE. NORRIS, THE ROOKIE LB FROM UTAH IS A PLAYER WHO CAN FILL THE KLEIN ROLE, IN MY OPINION. THEY LIKE HIM.  JEREMY CASH IS BEEFING UP AND LEARNING LB--I SEE HIM IMPROVING TREMENDOUSLY IN 2017.  FINALLY, MAYO IS NOT A FREE AGENT, SO HE STAYS, UNLESS I MISSED SOMETHING.  WE HAVE TO PLAN FOR LIFE WITHOUT TD, SO ADDING A LB IN THE DRAFT OR SOME VETERAN COULD BE A WISE MOVE.

3. CB

While Bradberry had a impressive year he was about the only CB that would be considered starting quality. With a good bunch of CBS hitting the FA market I would expect Dave to sure up this position. HERE IS WHERE I QUESTION YOUR POINT A BIT--I LOVE BRADBERRY, AND I THINK WORLEY IS LEARNING AT A TREMENDOUS.   STILL, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOME COMPETITION.  WITH JOHNSON HAVING A DECENT SEASON AND THE POSSIBILITY OF SANCHEZ GETTING BETTER, WE COULD PROBABLY GET AWAY WITH BRINGING IN A VETERAN ON A ONE-YEAR DEAL.

4. Saftey

Safety had to be the weakest part of a weak chain in 2016. While Colman was bad, Tre Boston was worse and hopes of home grown talent disappeared. While the FA market on FS/SS looks thin expect the Panthers to draft early if available. I SEE S AS A PRIMARY NEED.  I WANT NEW BLOOD BACK THERE.

Well there you have it guys. It's my reasonable list to get us back to glory.

Snake, thanks for this---I agree and disagree, of course, but I like the fact that you threw it out there..I added comments above as I see it, for the sake of conversation.

We have to make some tough decisions this offseason.  DE is scary because they take time to develop.  We are not going to give Addison a $12m deal--but someone will.  Klein will get a $40m deal to go start somewhere.  So we can count them gone, if you ask me.  There is talk of letting KK walk but that is the bad move.  Instead, and I HATE saying this, the smart move is to let Stewart walk and save $5m (salary minus dead cap $). Cutting Gano would save $3m, and Soliai would save us another $2.5 m if we cut him (and at 33, we should).  By the way, cutting Tolbert clears $1.5 m.  Cutting Dickson would save $2m.

I would cut Stewart (5), Soliai (2.5), Tolbert (1.5), Dickson (2) and use the $11m elsewhere.  Throw in the nearly $19m surplus we already have.in cap room, that gives you $30m and whatever the cap increases. Spend it on KK.  Spend it on a S.

In 2018, we get to try to re-sign Norwell, Turner, Star....

Yeah shouldn't be too bad. Guy is solid against the run. Can't be any worse than what we have. We can play him at SS and Coleman FS.
