Antwan Odom only had 2 tackles. He's trash...

why focus on a game that means nothing? When was the last game that mattered that peppers stepped up in. Im not bashing him, im stating the obvious. his first two weeks were not as good as Odoms. Thats what i said. and its the truth. nothing u can say will change that. Ill give him all the credit in the world when he deserves it. he does NOT deserve anything right now.

week 1 Peppers was the defense....Odom couldn't and didn't have that type of influence on the play on the field. Not Peppers' fault what the offense did and the points given up. Watch a play by play of week 1 and actually watch what Peppers did on each snap and what occurs on the field. He was every bit worth the money.....too bad everyone else didn't earn the paychecks.

Go back and watch week 2....watch Pep each down and watch the play calls by Atlanta.....they geared there offense with Peppers in mind. Too bad nobody else steps up when a team clearly is concerned and takes a guy out of the game.

There is a reason he so called earned his money a few years ago....there were other playmakers on the field for teams to worry about up front. Any good team should be able to limit what Peppers can do and take away his impact to a large degree. In a John Fox defense you need legit playmakers up front...b/c players aren't going to be put into position to make big plays for the most part.

Plus, comparing the Bengals DC to Meeks is laughable. That was a great hire by Cincy last year and they improved last year and are taking another step this year.

It's just entirely too easy to bash the guy. I just like to see a little consistency. And people saying Pep was non-existent in game 1 is laughable..

And that seems to be the generic sentiment both on here and in the media...

The urgency to defend Peppers is baffling. His salary cap number crippled your team's ability to sign depth at critical positions. He does not want to play for your team. He will be gone next year. His expectations are not different than the expectations for players being paid similarly:

Carson Palmer, Cin $16.166M

Eli Manning, NYG $15.285M

Nnamdi Asomugha, Oak $15.155

Ben Roethlisberger, Pit $14.664M

Peyton Manning, Ind. $14M

Comparing him to a DE making 1/5th his salary is not a relevant argument. The NFL has a salary cap, and when a high percentage of your salary cap is devoted to a single player then that player is most certainly expected to perform at a high level EVERY week. I can assure you that Palmer and Eli are not given passes for bad games.

but if said player has a bad game, what are you going to do. no player in the nfl has great games every game. even the ones you listed have bad games every once and while maybe more. remember the FO decided to franchise him. money does not equal performance, remember that dt the raiders signed to that huge contract. does that mean he has to play a a probowl level. no, just means that have a stupid fo!

Let's see,P Manning-$14M J Peppers-almost $17M,close to $19M if he goes to the probowl,who do you think is actually earning his money,yeah,that's what I thought too!

Good post.

The fact is, Panthers fans don't demand results, we're fine with whatever the good ole' boys do out there. That's our mentality. The ones of us that want results, figured out that Peppers over-rated when his line help went away (Rucker/Jenkins) and he became ordinary with single blocking and all of that. We can't do anything now but ride the wave unfortunately.

but Peppers isn't ordinary....put any stud DE on a crap line that prefers to rush the front in a 4-3 and there job becomes impossible to live up to expectations.

Peppers isn't trash, but he sure isn't a top tier DE. When has Peppers ever stepped up in a big regular season game, or a playoff game? Where was he last year against Mike Gandy in the playoffs? Oh, and Dwight Freeney completely dominated Gandy last night if anyone noticed. Peppers two biggest games last year were against Oakland and Detroit. I expect more of the same from Peppers tonight in Dallas, I'll eat my words if he explodes, but knowing Peppers, he won't show up tonight in a big game setting.

again, compare the rest of the DL in Indy minus Freeney to the DL in Carolina minus Peppers. Did you watch the game? Plenty of pressure was generated by guys NOT named Freeney.....that makes a huge difference.

you will eat your words if he has a good game tonight? what about the next week? are you gonna jump back off and flip flop every week?

    • I'll say 6. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition and will do more to help the defense than anyone. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole there. For all the hype surrounding Sanders and Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
    • 2010 was worse. Not much worse but worse.
    • Lol since 2017 the Panthers are 47-85,    Also since 2017 the Giants are 40-91-1   Lol
