Panthers Working Out CB Jalen Tabor and S Marcus Maye At UF Today

Teez Tabor was considered the best lockdown corner in the college football season for a while.  The hype on him as quickly burnt out. Also, with a follow below average combine he isn't even considered a top 3-4 Corner in the draft this year.  Maybe by working him out they are trying to determine what happened.  He's measurements and play style would be a good fit but hearing this from a scout, doesn't sound like a Gettleman type guy.

Sources Tell Us

"With Vernon (Hargreaves) there last year he played with a lot more confidence. I don't think he's a lockdown cornerback. He's a good football player and can cover in our league, but he's also going to be a pain in the ass for whoever takes him." -- AFC Southest area scout

Maye makes me very nervous. Really good college player, but gets beat on the deep ball a little too frequently. Has some issues tracking it in the air, which is a recipe for disaster against the receivers in the NFC South. Personally, not crazy about the Panthers drafting him.

Kind of interested why Quincy Wilson isn't getting worked out as well. If the staff is already at UF you might as well see all the prospects they have to offer.

Maybe he's off training elsewhere preparing for the draft. Wilson does seem more the style of the Panthers being 6'1 at 215 lbs while Tabor is only 6'0 at 190 lbs.

Nickel vs outside? Though with Captain in the fold you can probably argue outside is more of a need than nickel right now.

He did have some good film! I think that's why we are working him out. To see if its technique or a greater issue. I can see us picking him up in the 3rd or 4th if he looks good in the workouts.

Me either.

At the slot there's Captain, Sanchez, and Patmon while only one is needed at a time.

On the outside there's Bradberry, Worely, Lou Young, and a bunch of newbies. I feel like outside corner is the much bigger need at the moment.

I can't stand that POS Jalen Tabor. Talked a bunch of poo before the game this past year then got his ass burned all game by Ja'uan Jennings. No offense to you Gator fans on this board but the guy is garbage.

Hope he's still eating poo about the "ducks can't pull trucks" bullshit he said... how'd that work out Jalen?

    • I mean, I wouldn't classify him as elite, but he is good. Are you arguing that he's JAG? There aren't many elite pass rushers in the league today in my opinion. Carter and Thibodeuax don't seem to be. I mean, come on. Sometimes rushers get to the QB, sometimes they don't. Sometimes injuries slow a player down. I haven't seen Hutchinson enough, but he just got paid like an elite pass rushers, and we all know that Parsons is. Who else is really elite? Crosby and Watt can rain terror, at times.  Hendrickson is good, but a Johnny-come-lately. Other guys seem to be on the same level as Burns. The days of Pep or Reggie White have been gone.
    • With Canales I'm not nearly as concerned about his mismanagement of the RB situation (which you could argue is being overblown to a degree yes) as I am with how woefully inept he is at preparing coaching and managing his team on gamedays against opponents and their coaching staffs with winning records. The team has been blown off the field too many times under his watch now. But I will concede that even if we fire him we will just end up with another figurehead of sorts. It's plainly obvious or at least it should be that our ownership is still meddling and pulling strings.
    • It's definitely not but what he and Darnold and now Jones are all doing does show that if you have a guy who checks a lot of the prerequisite boxes putting them in the right situation can make all the difference. The problem for the folks wanting to apply this logic to Bryce is that little "checks a lot of the prerequisite boxes" issue.
