and we need an additional $10M for rookie contracts.

Dave is turning into Marty 2.0

No we dont.  The only cap figures from rookies that will show up in the top 51 contracts are the ones that are higher than the current contracts on the roster.  So after the 4th round none of the contracts will show up until the season starts.  Every time a contract that has a salary cap hit high enough to show up in the top 51 contracts is added to the team the lowest contract is taken off.  So for the rookies, before the season starts, figure 5 million at most. Maybe less

And nobody is saying it's 167M. Both sites, where people get their contract info, figure that in as soon as previous season is over. Nobody has quoted any number that didn't have that figured in.

i want to apologize. I do see that number quoted in the original post. My bad.

We have more than 1mil in cap space. Gettleman has never let us get that low. We will still sign more free agents and cut a few guys. We are in good shape. Don't know where u guys get these ridiculous numbers

Sent using the amazing CarolinaHuddle mobile app

My point was you are going by a website and cap number that doesn't have 8 players figured in yet. See all those names at the bottom with no money taken out from them.

We need a salary cap class on this board. We dont need 7 or 10 million for the rookies.  For ever rookie contact that is added to the top 51 contracts the lowest contract of the existing player is removed from the top 51.  So if we draft a guy in the 5th round and his cap hit is 500,000 it is not added to the top 51 contracts.  Th cap hit for the 8th pick lets say for year 1 is 2 million. Well then the lowest contract, currently 625,000, is removed.  So that 2 million cap hit only cost up 1.375 million.  Every time  contract for anyone is added to top 51 contracts the lowest one is removed.

closer to 3 according to this.  The additional salary over the vet min. guys will be the only addition to the cap. Vet min is around 650k so only the first 3 picks will add anything.
