Panthers meeting/working out DE Tarell Basham today

Sources Tell Us

"He is similar to Carl Lawson but I think you can get him probably a couple of rounds later or maybe more. I think he can still get a lot better as a pass rusher." -- NFC area scout

Bottom Line

Basham has the strength and length to play as a 4-3 base end or as a 3-4 rush linebacker, but his pass rush approach will need to be sharpened as he lacks the flexibility to bend the edge and attack the pocket with athleticism alone. Basham may never produce a high sack total, but his alpha playing style will appeal to teams looking to groom a solid backup with starter's potential.

According to Jourdan, Eric Washington is personally working him out.

I'm telling you the trade down option is good if we can get it and get another 2nd and and a 3rd or 4th..

If fournette doesn't make it to 8.. Trade down get a Ross or Nijkuo in the 1st and add this guy a safety and a RB in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.. We would be set..

Sounds like a perfect prospect you Groom when most of your starters are on the wrong side of 30... Hmmmmm

Right. You see what our front office is thinking here. If Solomon Thomas or Jonathan Allen are gone @8 (most likely will) they will select a developmental DE in later rounds instead of reaching for lets say Derek Barnett.

Now we can disagree there.. I don't think taking Barnett in the top 10 is a reach.. I like him over everybody not name fournette.. But if we traded down and got Basheam I would be happy as well.

Kony Ealy is gone because he couldnt get to the quarterback

and Basham is a small scool project whom at the next level is definetly not getting to the quarterback with his skill set or talent.the only way this is possible if the kid masters the bull rush, and i wouldnt be willing to make a second round bet on that happening.

however, the kid is strong as an ox and  should excel at containg the edge and forcing the runner back inside

Brees,Winston, and Ryan is whom u need to take into consideration whenever your scouting a DE for Carolina .so,a kid like Hendrickson in the latter rounds makes more since than Basham.

    • it's pretty simple IMO.  The Tepper Panthers are the most unsuccessful professional sports in all of sports.  The problem isn't the posters here have changed.  The product dictates the atmosphere more than anything.  In reality, the daily convos about THE worst team in all of pro sports on a fanatics site....is going to feature harsh and critical convo.  Only one entity can actually change that.  It's the Carolina Panthers football team.
    • Yes message boards will always include that sort of stuff… However, this place has been a cess pool since the team took Bryce Young over CJ Stroud. It becomes a problem when it is accepted and promoted, which it has been here (even by at least one mod). Many posters sole purpose on this board is to try to dunk on others for having different opinions. We just had one write a novella on how talking about Bryce Young’s game winning drives “needs to stop”…after a win. They don’t want real conversation. It “needs to stop”. There are many posters here who literally only show up after losses to dead thread and try to dunk on others about the QB (MRenshaw is an easy example). I really don’t see much of that happening the other way around. There’s too many people that would rather the team be bad so they can feel justified for constant doom and gloom and negative opinions. It’s been pointed out by many over the past couple years. This just isn’t a place to have football discussions anymore because of the constant hyperbole. If you don’t subscribe to “Bryce Young is the worst QB ever who can’t throw the ball further than 5 yards and is the reason why we lose any game we lose and doesn’t help in any game we win”, then you are labeled a Bryce Young Stan.
    • if you believe he is watching every NFL game.....every week.....go right ahead.  I get it, he said something you like.  But that's like believing the talking heads on the ESPN shows are watching all the games.  You think Stephen A is watching the Panthers every Sunday too?  If Stephen A needs to go on First Take he certainly can pretend like he has watched every snap any player on the roster has taken lol.   No one is that isn't a Panther fan has been watching the 9-25 career go down every Sunday.  Or even a lot of Sunday's.  You know who knows more about Bryce Young than Long? The collective huddle.  What they are reviewing is stat sheets, highlights and in summaries.  It's an old formula lol.
