How early would you draft players with injury/character issues?

Just curious if you all were GMs for the Panthers where would you draft these prospects or would they even be on the board? Let's pretend you could trade up or back to get them. Where is the earliest you would get them?

Ross

Sidney Jones

Butt

Dalvin Cook

Dede Westbrook

Joe Mixon

Cam Robinson (Just added: Weed and gun possession. Thanks @top dawg

Ross and Mixon, I'd take in the second round.

Jones in the third/fourth depending upon the board

Butt maybe in the fourth, but definitely by the fifth.

Cook would have to be taken by the fifth I'd think. Too much value!

For me, it's all about value. With character concerns, it's value plus risk-reward.

Edit: On second thought, Westbrook wouldn't be an option.

Relative to our picks...

Ross at 40 or a slight trade up.

Jones is a tough one. Maybe at 64, but an Achilles just scares me long term.

Cook- too low to get him. Comp pick or possibly 64 if desperate.

Butt- 5th

Mixon and Westbrook- don't want either to ever step foot near my team at any price.

You might want to add Cam Robinson. I don't think what he did screams bad character, but some do. If he was there in the second, I'd take him in a heartbeat. If he, Mixon or Ross were there, I'd still probably take Mixon, but it would be a tough decision.

it doesn't matter you're going to face the same scrutiny no matter where the player is taken.

Might as well take your guy where you have him ranked.

I'm just taking value into account. The lower they fall, the lower the risk to my pocketbook.

What did Cam Robinson do again? I know he was involved with something but it hasn't been as talked about as Mixon, Cook and Westbrook.

I think that Robinson's and Mixon's character concerns are overblown. Unlike Westbrook and Cook, they don't have a history. I feel that that matters, and I feel that it should matter to everyone. But...we all have our lines in the sand.

Yup agreed

Would have to do a thorough investigation on all of them, but I'd have to spend a few days with Cook, Westbrook, and their friends & fam to really try to get a feel on them. Even with that, Westbrook would probably be off my board. With that being said:

Ross: Id run up to the podium in the 2nd to pick him.

Jones: 3rd

Butt:4th

Cook: 3rd

Mixon: Run up to the podium with my 2nd 2nd rd pick if he was available.

Westbrook: pass

It's a fine line that's for sure. Daryl Worley was drafted by us after being arrested for domestic violence and pleading no contest. Nobody really has given two shits about it since he was drafted. Now the same people who don't care about Worley would never draft players with a DV record. Personally, I would keep Robinson on the board and take off Cook, Mixon and Westbrook. I just don't want the scrutiny bc they are higher profile players and their situations would be talked about constantly.

    • Number 9  Carolina Panthers  Bryce Young, the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, produced career highs in completion percentage (63.6%), passing yards per game (188.2) and passing touchdowns (23) in 2025. However, those numbers aren't exactly stellar by NFL quarterbacking standards. Even though the Panthers backdoored their way into the postseason in 2025 as NFC South champions with an 8-9 record, Young's performance was up-and-down. He threw for the third-fewest passing yards by a quarterback to make the playoffs in the last 20 seasons, per CBS Sports Research.  FEWEST PASSING YARDS BY QB TO REACH PLAYOFFS, LAST 20 SEASONS (MIN. 16 STARTS) PASSING YARDS PLAYOFF WINS 2012 Christian Ponder (MIN) 2,935 0 2008 Joe Flacco (BAL) 2,971 2 2025 Bryce Young (CAR) 3,011 0 2006 Steve McNair (BAL) 3,050 0 2019 Josh Allen (BUF) 3,089 0 Young did deliver some high highs, like when he threw for a franchise-record 448 yards passing in a Week 11 overtime win at the Atlanta Falcons and when he went toe-to-toe with Stafford in the playoffs in a 34-31 defeat.  Kenny Pickett couldn't win the Cleveland Browns' quarterback competition a year ago, and Will Grier is a career backup.
