Rumor: Bengals And Panthers Competing For #2 Overall Pick. Panthers Have Current Lead & Offer.

So you don't want to hold on to our mid round picks if it means a chance to get a "blue chip" player? That's a logical stance and valid, but we may be able to o keep those and still get one by standing pat at #8.

Thats the conundrum.

if the team is trying to trade up, then they don't feel that that is the case, and thus is the only base outsiders can make an argument from.

I forgot about value. Fournette would be getting a huge chunk of change #2 overall.

Yep.  He would instantly have the most guaranteed $$ of any RB in the NFL i believe.  I'm a huge LF fan but in that case get me Garrett or the 8th pick.

I have a feeling that in DG decides he wants the #2 pick, for either Fournette, Garrett, Thomas, etc....he will pull the trigger BEFORE the draft. No reason to see who Cleveland takes first, if your plan is to go get the #2 pick.

UNLESS, you think for some reason CLE might take a QB, and you want to let a bidding war begin for Garrett because ultimately you want Fournette.

In that case, let everyone fight over Garrett at 2, then pull a deal with CHI for LF at 3.

Exactly.... Fifth year option on Fournette at the two slot would be a disaster... If the Browns pull a Browns and go Turbisky then we better be calling SF and giving them the farm for Myles

Sure would.  You're looking at the next Pep/Von type player and Pep is here to mentor him along with Mario and Charles.  Our front 4 would absolutely deserve a nickname if that happened

San Francisco isn't going to trade the 2 pick until after Cleveland picks on the off chance the browns pass Garrett up

why are people having such a difficult time with this

Myles Garrett is not getting drafted by the panthers.

If we move up for Garrett, fine.

if we move up for Fournette, it will seriously damage my faith in Gettleman. I cannot fathom spending three high draft picks one a one dimensional, one trick pony, running back.

How much better than Stewart in his prime do you really think Fournette is going to be?? Would you say Stewart in his prime is worth three high draft picks?

Trading up for a one dimensional running back and spending three high draft picks on him is the absolute worst idea I have seen floated. And that is saying something

i think we've all just been rocked to sleep on the idea that we're still "building" this team. we're about to hit our limit on quality players who we can pay big money to. We can't afford anymore big money stars on this team. We're now looking for quality rookie deal players with the hope that they contribute at a high level and we either keep them for cheaper or we keep shifting through it. The rest of the team is cheap but smart vets.

we are one more star (on the offense) away from being super bowl bound. you read that right-- despite our GM's saying, we're not playing by that rule for the next couple of years. we can get by with a grab bag at WR, as long as we can run we can win. the plan is for the o-line to be good/adequate, and pound the rock all season long. stewart may get equal shares early, but he is older and more worn down. when we'd usually be running on fumes, fournette is there to take the lion's share of the workload and we keep chugging.

none of the other guys up top in this draft fit the blueprint for what we're trying to do right now. we can get an athletic DE in round 2. we can get a Safety in round 2 or 3. we can even get a TE late. we need an elliot level RB in round 1 to get us where we want to go this year.

mr richardson is running out of time and doesn't want to watch dave nickel and dime the team into maybe making another run. the next season or two is winning time. we'll lose davis, olsen, kalil, and cj very soon. without them we can still be competitive, but the team as we know it is gone forever. there's no banking on anything past them leaving, and for mr richardson, there's probably much more of an incentive to win with those guys and pep and captain over anyone else.

this season is going to be a wild, emotional ride. the chips are gonna be all out on the table and we're going for broke.

    • Yep he made the comment " I dont know what they were doing out there at that point" in the press conference. Let's be real they all got paid but they also know his system suppresses there offensive potential.
    • Yup the casuals on Facebook ive gotten 85 laughing or angry emojis so far for pointing it out.  The amount of them throwing a fit because the canes were booed is insane
    • Why are you so fixated on yards? Even if yards were a good judge of QB play, his low yardage totals in some of those games were partly a function of drops (looking at you Xavier Leggette…).  I’m not advocating that Bryce was elite for the last half of last year, but the eye test certainly supported high level QB play for large stretches. He made a lot of high difficulty, put it on the money/drop in the bucket throws. He converted on 3rd and 4th down, kept drives moving, and put the team in position to win games. And it’s not on him that the defense blew it late after he led game tying drives, Leggette dropped a game winning TD, or Chuba fumbled the ball in OT. We could have finished the season close to .500 with wins against 3 playoff teams including KC and Philly during that stretch largely due to Bryce’s play.    Has he sustained this level of play long enough to deserve an higher ranking? No. But for judging based in that stretch alone, he would. But whether he can perform more consistently at that level or build on that, and thus earns a higher ranking, remains to be seen.
