For those who haven't gone to Panthers.com the last two days

And listened to the Gettleman/Rivera press conference, you should.  Because they are fascinating.

The thing I liked best from both conferences (besides DG's nuggets of wisdom) is Ron's explanation of why the 2015 offense was successful.  And, to the surprise of many I'm sure, according to Ron it wasn't because we ran the ball all the time or ran it well (both of which are not untrue).  He specifically pointed out that the most damaging difference between the success of the 2015 offense and the lack of success of the 2016 offense was the absence of a presence in the slot that could sit underneath and get the team those critical first downs (hello Jerricho Cotchery) in addition to also lining up in the backfield for option-looks when needed.  Yes, injuries in 2016 were also a primary reason, but the post-draft press conference was not the time or place to address that issue I'm sure, he was addressing specifically personnel issues.

Like I said, I highly recommend watching these because its worth your time.

Yep.

A few more critical 1st downs in those six games (say from the slot WR position?) and things might have been different.

I saw somewhere we had 33 different combinations of personnel on the oline.  More than any other team.  Yet we very well could have won 6 of the games we lost.  A better FG kicker wouldn't hurt either.

...it also took us a little luck to get to 15-1, as it would for any team, and because of that, it helped the team play up to their potential, and that's why they carried that momentum into the playoffs

Nothing to do with the slot, injuries all over the O-LINE derailed this team last year... absolutely nothing to do with slot

(Because it couldn't  possibly be the case that there were multiple reasons the team failed last year, right?  ONLY ONE! AND COACH BRANDON HAS COME DOWN FROM ON HIGH TO SPREAD HIS INFORMATION SEED TO US SCHLUBS!)

We also lost last season because Gano cost us 3 games by himself. That and the league didn't care about Cam taking shots to the head and RR didn't have the nads to call them out on it.

I always listen to their pressers. I was pissed last night though because I waited until about 1:30am and it still wasn't up.

Yep, lots of reasons.  One being that Cam had absolute ca-ca to throw to underneath.
