A statistical look back of the last 5 drafts

Check this out, I just came across this article:

http://ftw.usatoday.com/2017/04/nfl-draft-performance-grades-best-drafting-teams-picks-classes-2012-2016

Which is from FTW at USA Today. It takes a look back at the last 5 years of drafts, starting with 2012, and gives numerical value to each pick based off of a formula they came up.

We rank number 2, right behind Seattle. I think this article really shows us how amazing we have actually drafted since DG came to town. Good stuff.

So the Panthers best draft was 2012, which was Hurney's last. Interesting.

Hurney wouldn't have lasted so long here if he sucked at everything.  Listening to the Scouts during the draft process is something he did right.

But we passed up Landry and Robinson for KB.

Landon Collins for Shaq.

Dodd, Ogbah, Hunter Henry and Derrick Henry for Butler

I really doubt I can reason with you but I'm going to try my best because you're just. So childish.

Everyone, EVERYONE passed up on Landry. Twice. He was never a first round pick. I liked him a lot and wanted him, but we didn't get him. You bitch about KB but guess who had more yards and touchdowns last year between him and Robinson, despite Jacksonville passing way more. And before you come with the "Cam is better than Bottles" retort, Cam is also better than Tanehill, its arguable that Bottles is too.

Landon Collins had severe coverage concerns, and still has some issues and lapses. It helps that he plays with two of the better CBs in New York and an elite, expensive D-line. I can almost promise you he would not have excelled in our defense the same way with two rookie corners and an iffy D-line. Shaq has done well for our team and closed out the season amazingly well for us. With Klien gone he's gonna get a Lot More snaps.

Dodd had 5 tackles and 1 sack in 9 games, 1 start. Ogbah had 28 tackles and 5.5 sacks in 16 starts. Butler had 13 tackles and 1.5 sacks in 10 games, no starts. I can't speak for the other guys, but when Butler was in and healthy, he played very well. Nevermind the fact that all of the mentioned players were rookies last year, but I'm going to assume because you liked those players more from YouTube videos you're gonna say Gettleman made the wrong choice.

Fact of the matter is, EVERYONE fuging makes wrong picks, passes over a player who is really good for someone who is a bust. Look at all the teams that passed over Trai Turner, a guy who would no doubt be a first round pick if he had stayed another year, because he didn't have a lot of film on him. And out of all the teams for all the players you mentioned, only two of then have made the playoffs since drafting any of those players. And both of then were last year. Both were first round exits too. God knows how many draft picks those teams missed on, especially teams like the Bills (E.J. Manuel over players like Kyle Long, Tyler Eifert, Desmond Trufant, and Deondre Hopkins, Sammy Watkins over OBJ come to mind.) And Browns (lmao) have made alone.

Instead you just pick on recent memory because you like those players more and because they did good, you want them. There's plenty of picks for every team where they can look back and say "we should've drafted that player." No team, no GM is 100%. Funny thing is none of these players are bad. Sure Kelvin has his issues and last year was a down year for him, but even then he preformed better than one of the guys you say we should've drafted. If you know so well who should and shouldn't be drafted, why are you posting on the Carolina Huddle instead of you know, being a GM of an NFL team?

Now, finally I am here posting on a forum site instead of sitting in Philly this past weekend with Mike Mayock bc because. My counselors in HS were terrible and they gave me bad advice. They didn't tell me to go with my dreams. Instead they told me what they thought I could and couldn't do.

At least it wasn't your fault.

Tell me you didn't have bad counselors

My HS counselor didn't have much for me. I was accepted at the only school I applied to (University of Miami) which was rated 3rd in the country in Marine Biology.

I fugged it up not him. But I did have a great time so it wasn't a total waste. :)

    • Dude, I think I might be having Jarvy withdrawals... I ripped the sleeves off of all of my t-shirts in my sleep last night. Every bite of my Alpha-Bita cereal spelled Seth, this morning. And, I took 7 naps before lunch. I'm losing it guys! Jarvy's Jaunty Band of Jaggoffs are getting more play than he is... smh Team Canada doesn't treasure Jarvis the way he deserves. He should take his band down to Liechtenstein, get a bag of passports, and start his own Olympic team! The raw animal magnetism of Jarvilicious will bring in a handful of NHLers on its own. And, since the IOC believes in collective punishment, he could have his pick of the rookies. Then, just fill out the rest of the roster with the maple blooded great white northerners who couldn't make the top squad. Can't trust this assembled awesomery to just any old Liechtensteinien with a clipboard and a whistle. Gotta bring in a legend worthy of this gold medal gambit. A hockey HOFer with the balls to buck the system and the aura to match our maverick. Huere geil, Vaduz!!! 2030 Gold Medal guaranteed!
    • Tennessee isn't trading a QB on a 2nd round contract that has starting experience.  That's bad business.
    • OT is the top priority as it is both an immediate and future need.  I wouldn't be past trading up slightly to get the guy we want.  You need that rookie contract right now.  Icky is a dead 17.5 million for the season.  Morton is 20+ mil for the season, Hunt is 20+ mil for the season.  There needs to be forward thinking regarding the future.   Caleb Lomu is a left Tackle, he's a solid prospect, he may be the best pick for us now and in the future.  I would seriously consider cutting Hunt after 2026, and let Lomu and Icky fight for the LT job, loser moves inside.  Icky's future may be at guard after this injury anyway.  If Damien Lewis keeps up his level of play he will need to be paid sooner rather than later.  Yosh and BC can be our top two depth OL at an affordable price.  You will need to look at OT again in 2027. Getting an EDGE for the sake of getting an EDGE outside of the top 10 is pretty risky.  I wouldn't be against eyeing someone like Cashius Howell, Derrick Moore, or TJ Parker in the 2nd (even if we trade a future pick to move up) or DDS in the third. I'd love to see us try to sign both Leo Chenal and Matt Millano in FA.   Chenal for the blitzing element we are missing from our LB corps and Millano for his elite coverage.  They could both work in tandem.  Remember, our FO has deep ties to both KC and Buffalo. I love thinking about the draft, but until Free Agency hits, we are clueless.  Looking at the strength of FA and the draft, OL is priority #1, LB #2, and EDGE #3.  We know what happens to Bryce when protection falls apart.
