Actor Sir Roger Moore, best known for playing James Bond, has died aged 89, his family has announced.

He played the famous spy in seven Bond films including Live and Let Die and A View to a Kill.

Sir Roger's family confirmed the news on Twitter, saying he had died after "a short but brave battle with cancer".

I was surprised to see his age as well. 

On a related note, I have never watched a Bond movie. Never piqued my interest for whatever reason. Just me?

my wife hates James Bond movies. Saw Live and Let Die a few weeks ago with my father in law and he made his wife stay with us until it was over, he was into it!

Casino Royale is a 2 hour hair product commercial.  They even drink sambuca on the train through Italy while marveling at how grotesque Eva Green's feet are.  Give it a go.

My first James Bond was Roger Moore, so he'll always be Bond to me. Barely remember Moonraker, but Octopussy was a terrific film to start with into the genre/series.

 

Moore had so much class it was amazing, and the Bond girls didn't hurt to look at either.

Moore was the classy prick Bond. They have all tried to do it since.

I liked Moore first then appreciated Connery.  For Your Eyes Only was great as was Moonraker.  View to a kill with Chris Watkins and Grace Jones was my favorite for some reason.

Dammit, that was the movie I was thinking of when I mentioned Octopussy, which is also a great film, but my first Bond film was FYEO. Absolute crush on the female lead, Carole Bouquet - quite the stunner.

Opening song for FYEO is killer.  I like all the bond movies.  

If you have followed them for a while, skyfall was the poo.  Brought it full circle.
