Quote

11) QB Cam Newton and WR Curtis Samuel, Carolina Panthers

This pair is a bit of a wild-card, with a multitude of options -- Greg Olsen, Kelvin Benjamin, Christian McCaffrey and Devin Funchess -- competing for targets in Carolina. There's also the fact that Newton is coming off one of the worst seasons of his career. But I think he'll bounce back, especially after having surgery to correct a shoulder injury that likely helped mar 2016. And I think Samuel has the talent to distinguish himself from the rest of the pass-catching crowd. He looked like Secretariat among plow horses at his pro day. These are two talented players, and Samuel has a chance to have a Percy Harvin- or Stanley Morgan-type impact as a rookie.

Gil Brandt is the best.

I love that quote and love the Godfather. I agree, he is the best.  I called in to Sirius NFL radio  and talked with Gil before the Arizona game in the 2015 season playoffs.  Everyone was talking about how the Panther secondary could not keep up with the Cards' receivers.  Gil said he did not agree and thought that the Panthers had a very good chance of winning that game.  He was soooo nice to talk with...it was like he had known me forever. And of course....he was right.

Always use Huddle names. Isn't that right @thebigcat ?

    • Been here since the Coliseum days. Hornets were the first pro team I ever rooted for. If they're ever going to get out of the gutter they have to establish a culture. They are trying to do that. I have no idea if it will be successful but it's a start.
    • I don’t think I'd go that far but there is definitely legitimate reason to ask how much he actually values winning and being great as a basketball player. He is very easily distracted with off the court stuff. This has been a public criticism of people like LeBron James with some of the newer generations of "stars". And it is 1000% valid and needed to be said. All I can say is I hope this is the year. If it is it will be apparent fairly early on. But I get the sense if the same themes continue as the upcoming season progresses the FO could look to move him before the trade deadline. It would suck for a multitude of reasons and I don't want to see it happen but if it did it would be on LaMelo and LaMelo alone because they've given him the keys and are finally putting pieces around him. If he wants to be a great basketball player and win he will be here and do what is necessary for the team to be successful. If not well....
    • Haha.  I remember my first Hornets season.
