Stephen A Smith: Cam Newton will be better than Andrew Luck this season.

The Panthers in general are not going to get much respect until they start stringing together winning seasons. Inconsistency with our franchise is well beyond Cam Newton .

Remember when we were winning in 2015 and people kept making excuses as why we were winning? And these same nfl fans were so quick to jump up and down and proclaim how much we suck in 2016? Yeah some of that is Cam haters but alot of it is they don't respect a franchise thats known for its inconsistency and 7-9 or 6-10 seasons

Lol, excuses excuses excuses...

Cam came into the tougher division and talent deprived team but this moron had the audacity to pull "well, if they switched teams" angle. Luck is not a precision passer and has suspect decision-making. Say what you want about Cam, but he won't throw for 4 interceptions in back to back games. He's overcompensated for his teammates too.

What would luck do with the 2015 team? One could wonder..

And this is why I didn't click on the video. They're so damn predictable and boring. Hell, I've been critical of Cam at times too but I believe he's going to light it up this year. He just needs to let those playmakers do a little more of the work.

Probably go 6-10 or worse. Yes the defense bailed us out a few games but Luck isn't running or extending plays like Cam did that year.
Not saying you do but a lot of the talking heads fail to mention the Colts made sure he had weapons to throw to. If the O-line excuse doesn't work for us why does he get a pass?

Anybody can look these stats up, but here ya go:

(and yes I realize Cam has been in the league 1 year longer and ppl still want to knock Cam for his completion %)

I mean when you consider the stats and the fact that Cam has achieved so much more with less up to this point in their careers.....I don't really see how it's even very close.

Oh well, it's ESPN so who cares and as has already been mentioned; we won't get respect (the team as a whole or Cam) until we can win consistently.

    • I'm super excited about the guys we're getting back, and fortunately this year, outside of Robert Hunt, we haven't had any season-threatening injuries. Rico has earned the start, but I am excited to have both available.  The team is finally turning into the run-first team Canales said he wanted to be. As for JT Sanders, I think he has lost the most be being out. He is probably our best receiving TE, but with the emergence of Mitchell Evans & with him and Tommy Tremble both absolutely balling in run blocking, it will be hard to fix something that isn't broken. I'm hoping Turk Wharton can help with our pass rush. We really havent gotten to see him much due to injuries, but we desperately need anyone to provide some pass rush juice, which is what he was brought to do. I'm the most excited about Jalen Coker returning. Theilen may have been the most clutch last year, but I've watched a lot of film, and Coker was the most consistent WR we had when he was out there last year.  I think he can be an ideal #2 to Tmac. While Coker doesn't have the raw athleticism XL does, his route running, savvy, and overall football IQ simply make him better.  I think with the fact Coker can play both outside and in the slot will give our pass game more versatility.  We have been running a lot of 2 TE sets, and I think Tmac & Coker should be the primary WRs for 12 personnel. The other WRs (XL, Tremayne, Renfrow, & Horn) all have roles, but I dont think any of them can fully replace what Coker can do. I do think Renfrow will be inactive this week if everyone is healthy bc of how valuable Tremayne is for ST and as a run blocker. So happy that we are playing meaningful football heading into November. We are still almost certainly a year away, but we are absolutely moving in the right direction
