Taylor Moton Express!

A lot of the hype from our draft class has been going towards CMC and Curtis Samuel. By all means, it's understandable. However, I think Moton deserves some recognition. If Moton was a LT, I feel he would have gotten noticed a ton more by reporters, but because he plays RT, people don't care too much about him. But that needs to change.

In the past, the team's best pass rusher generally rushed from the right side of the defense, going up against the LT. But now, pass rushers are moving all along the dline, most notably across the RT. JJ Watt, Von Miller, Khalil Mack, Justin Houston, Joey Bosa, Vic Beasley, and Danielle Hunter (12.5 sacks last year with the Vikings) all rush from the left side of the defense. That means they are going up against the RT. In the dreaded superbowl, Von Miller destroyed our RT Remmers. This past season, during the browns vs broncos matchup, Von Miller did not go up against LT Joe Thomas, rather he went up against RT Mitchell Schwartz. Schwartz allowed zero sacks which led him to being pursued by the KC Chiefs during FA. Moton was rated the best RT in this years draft and we got him at the end of the second round. That is a big steal that isn't being praised enough. It was reported that he was taking RT reps during OTAs while Daryl Williams was at G. Barring an injury, god forbid, I don't see a way he isn't starting for us when the season starts. #KeepPounding

Just a reminder Daryl Williams is actually better than Remmers and good too.

Vic Beasley - Remmers abuser/NFL sack leader - had zero sacks on us last year. Daryl Williams started both games and shut him down.

It's gonna be an interesting battle between Williams and Moton. I like the potential of both of them. At this point, Williams will likely start due to experience, but don't be surprised to see Moton try and take that job soon.

That's a damn good point about how some of the best pass rushers are going against RT's nowadays. I think saca312 is right about Williams being the starting RT though but I think it's mainly because Moton is going to be getting a LOT of LT reps in camp just in case Kalil's hip gives out again.

I'm definitely excited about Moton.  In what was consistently panned as an awful OT class, DG managed to find someone who looks like a very promising player.  It was definitely quite shocking to see us throwing him immediately into LT as well as RT and RG.  That is a lot to ask of a rookie.  I'm hoping it's not just sheer desperation for depth that is causing us to do that, but real potential.  I'm no scout, but just in the limited video clips of OTAs, Moton looks like he moves extremely well.  Exciting to watch from the get go.

Not quite sure, from what I've seen & heard, as to how Moton managed to fly under so many analysts' and teams' radars.  He could be one of the steals of the draft, I'm hoping.

I don't think Moton was really under the radar. He wouldn't have lasted long if the Panthers had not picked him. He would have been a 1st rounder if he had played LT in college.

    • When we have everyone playing like they should, we can win the Cup. That has been the biggest problem when we get to the playoffs, but this year seems to be fixed mostly. We could have had multiple if we had done this in the past.
    • Here we go Bryce Stan’s you should love this. Hell it may be one of you.  It has every cliche excuse and then some.  Unintentionally hilarious my limit was reached when he said Bryce had it hard because four play callers.
    • Luke goes in to the specifics of what he looked to accomplish in joint practices.  Basically they may work with someone on the opposing team to stress something they feel is a weakness in their own game in a different way that can be done with someone they are familiar with. That they can have predetermined stresses but since neither wants to get injured and it has absolutely no bearing on anything there is not the level of concern that would be in a preseason game.  He would also even chat with opposing OC.   It seems like an interesting nuance among the vets and savy pros.
