Pros and Cons of Hurney

I'm well aware of what they did but not sure what they have to do with this discussion?  I was replying to Sanjay regarding his blind optimism for how Hurney had magically become a quality GM with no supporting evidence.  I hope it's not a disaster as well and that my pessimism is proven wrong, but I don't see a reason to think this is a positive move based off what happened during his last tenure here.

I don't think it's a positive move, but I don't think that his status as interim is necessarily a disaster.  If he's still our GM when Free Agency starts next year, then maybe.  But to be honest, I think JR is our GM right now and intends to continue in that role regardless of who has the actual title.

Who the hell told you that lie and how the hell do they know where Cam was on other team's boards?

NOT a lie....that draft was deep. It was no reason to go Qb if you were iffy on one. Blaine grabbert was rated higher than cam by most people. Hurney did extensive work on evaluating cam, a article said they watched film all the way back to juco college, every game. Much as I love cam he wasn't a no brainer decision. You had to do homework to see if his game would translate from a business stand point, Hurney definitely liked him a lot more than other teams.

There are some fuzzy recollections around here on several fronts.

#1. Clausen was a mid to late 1st in most mock drafts.. It was viewed as a steal pick at the time by most pundits.. He sucked.. That's the way it goes some times

#2. The Otah trade was steep.. but he was damn good those first 2 seasons.. Injuries.. Thats the way it goes some times#.

#3. Newton.. Credit where credit was due.. back in 2011 this was not a slam dunk Andrew Luck pick.. They made the correct choice.. Hell NFL.com headline was:

Panthers take a chance, use No. 1 pick on QB Newton

There were plenty of questions about the pick.. But it paid off in a big way.

Now I will concede.. The Contracts.. CJ (bidding against yourself), DeAngelo, Godfrey, Delhomme... etc... were awful.. Terrible draft trade history, and his inability to make a 2nd round pick (other than Kalil and Richard Marshall).

All I can say is I hope he's learned from his mistakes... Or we will see a 7 year, 56 mill extension for TD

Hurney didn't read the scouting report on Otah it seems, Otah was a great Tackle and one of the best in the draft but then Missed 31 of 35 games due to developed Knee problems. bottom line is you stay away from guys like that, not trade the house for them and miss out on Jason Peters because of it.

Agreed, but I feel like the bringing back your former GM as an "interim" is like assuming you're only going to have a one night stand with your ex, you know damn well it's going to end up lasting a lot longer than one night and going to be just as rough as the first go-round

There are no fuggin pros. Dude was a all-around sh*t GM and now he's back to hand out dumbass contracts to past-their-prime vets. All we can hope for at this point is he doesn't get the permanent GM spot after this season (which we all know will pretty much happen). Can't really be mad at Hurney though, it's JR calling the shots, which is why we STILL have never had a back to back winning season.

Damn Hurney for not realizing a guy who started every game during his time at Pitt was going to develop knee problems.

We clearly need to ding Hurney for not having a crystal ball...

there is much to dump on the guy for.. but let's at least be fair.
