Greg Cosell doubts Cam can change after 6 seasons

Plenty of strong armed QBs are pocket passers. And, you're missing the point.

Cam [599] had as many  rushing attempts in 5 years as Brett  [602] did for  his entire 19 year career.

Brett never rushed more than 58 times in a season. After his 6th year, Favre never rushed more than 40 times a year. His last 10 years with GB, discounting last 3 years with the jets and Minn, which would bring the number down, he averaged 26 rush attempts a year.

Cam loves to play the game his way- lots of rushing attempts, screw the short passing game, I'm going deep- and he's good enough to make that work for awhile. Nearly got you guys a ring in 2015 doing that. It's not sustainable long term, if he doesn't adapt his game, become more of a pocket passer, he won't be around much longer.[another 5 years as opposed to another 10 years]

That's exactly what the panthers have been talking about all off season. Having cam be more of a pocket passer.

I'm not talking about running, I'm talking about the type of passer Cam will be going forward. I think he will always be a gunslinger, like Favre

the Panthers receivers and running backs are almost exactly the same.

they just swapped out a straight line runner with bad hands for a rotational running back/slot receiver.

almost everything else is the same.

No it isn't. First off we haven't had a decent slot receiver in forever. Ginn was decent but he often played on the outside out of necessity. Shepard is the real deal at slot. Second KB is now fully recovered from his ACL. He wasn't last Fall. Third Funchess is in a make or break it season so he has all the motivation to succeed.

Cam is a wild card. But just having a healthy line and a defense that doesn't require us to score 30 points a game should take a ton of pressure off the offense. Add a short game and a running back who can play out of the slot and is elusive and we are much improved over last year even if Curtis doesn't play.

Cam can throw it 65 yds off his back foot and throw it through a brick wall.  Arm strength has never been an issue.  To run the offense that he will need to run now (since I doubt he gets the QB run calls with concussions in mind), he will need to be able to be a bit more precise in short passes, slants, screens, etc.  I truly think the opposing D's do not expect him to be the 2 dimensional guy he was a few years back.  YAC will need to increase greatly and hitting guys in stride is the key.

    • Bryce has been playing the best ball of his career the last three games IMO. He wasn't the reason we dropped the game in NOLA. Seattle's defense will be his toughest challenge yet this season
    • I'll be at the game Sunday and up until last year I had a perfect attendance record. Now however I have seen us lose to the Chiefs (last year) and the Bills (this year). So we can no longer rely solely on my ability to pound overpriced beers to propel us to a win.
    • I haven't been able to watch Seattle on a dedicated basis but the Seahawks are a much better team by the all accounts: eye test, record and DVOA. Defensively they are sick. Best DVOA in the league first in rushing and second in passing. Offensively their passing game has been on fire this year led by JSN I can easily see this being like the Buffalo game where things just get out of hand for us early, that being said this league really is week to week and Seattle does have the disadvantage of traveling cross country for an early game.  If and big if, the Panthers are able to effectively run the ball and limit the amount of time Seattle's offense has to generate explosive plays we have a path to winning this game.  Seattle fans won't be happy to hear this but bad Darnold is always lurking in the background. He is truly an enigma to root for bc he will have an incredible throw that only a few people can make but then will turn around and throw the most bone headed pick of all time.  I think ultimately we drop this one as ultimately it's human nature to be looking forward to that week 18 game. But man how special would it be to be leaving the stadium on Sunday with a win and a miracle dolphins upset
