Palardy pushing Lee according to Joe Person

As good as Palardy has performed for us let's not forget he was on the couch for half the season last year until Lee got hurt. If he was that good, teams would have scooped him up. Yes, we gave up a 4th for Lee and, to me, that matters in the decision to keep him, but aside from that Lee is a multi year Pro Bowler! He's one of the top punters in the league. You don't cut that type of proven talent and production.

I get the argument about Palardy being younger, etc, but get Lee for 3-4 more seasons of top tier punting, you'll be able to replace  Lee with someone just as good or better than Palardy when he retires or moves on. Again, we grabbed Palardy off the couch mid season last year.

That's the sunk cost fallacy

Yeah I see where you're coming from there. From a performance standpoint I think Id want Lees experience if we needed a clutch punt. I feel we're in win now mode and I don't want to risk squandering any chances we have on someone who finds themself in a moment too big for them.

The Bucs signing Gano is a wet dream.  Anyone that's watched the Panthers for years hopes Butker gets the job.  He's been perfect in both games and Fanfest, Gano has not.

The position of fg kicker concerns me more than any other position this year and I am not sure Butker hitting all his fg's means much.  Gano was 13 of 14 in preseason last year, hitting his first 10 or 11 in a row.  Do we go with the decent but not so clutch Gano, or the complete unknown?  Either choice could come back to bite us in the a$$ at some point.

Butker hitting his kicks means A LOT.  He knows the pressure is on and has been money.  The kick against the Texans was from 53, dead on, with room to spare, and gave us a 10 point lead.  He's the only drafted kicker in Panthers history for a reason!

Gano makes me physically SICK!!!  Nothing about him is decent.  His percentage, lack of clutch factor, and price tag.  SICK!!!!!

It means that he has a shot at making the team, nothing more.  Gano was tied for 12th last year irt field goal percentage from 50 plus yards, and 16th from 40-49 yards.  Not great, but far from the worst in the league, in other words decent.  My guess is they go with Butker, but at this point its not a sure thing.

Perhaps I wasn't so crazy to be thinking along these lines after all (based upon Person, who apparently had at least a good notion).

Sure it may be coach-speak, but it could also mean that we'd try and shop Lee if Palardy pleases against Pittsburgh.

    • So the last guy who had the job got hired by his former team directly into a role he has no direct experience in?
    • Hard to pass up millions for a couple of days work per week for a coaching gig in the NFL that is 60-80 hours each week during the season and a more relaxed 50 hours a week during the off season. Yeah, I'd love to see him as our DC but hard to see him giving up the cushy job there if he gets it. And he's going to be a great commentator for the network.
    • Really, I think that is where negotiations come in. If you've got a QB getting you to 10 wins but statistically he's not a great performer, then you say look you can take $22 million or you can try it on the market. Because let's face it, out there, any leadership skills that we're seeing aren't going to be on the table, it's just going to be performance and that lands him in the QB2 market, which is much, much less lucrative (although any of us would love that money).  No one is saying that Bryce will be a $50 million QB, barring something short of a miraculous jump. I'm just saying that if we are winning somehow with him at the helm, then it would be fuging stupid to dive back into the rookie pool all over again. Let's say we do hit the 10 win mark, heck, let's call it 11 and a second round in the playoffs. I think we can all say that would be a really uplifting result and one that should be doable if we have good play. What do we do then? Here's what I would offer if I were Morgan and Tepper. $25 million a year for 3 years, each year with up to $10 million in incentives for touchdowns, wins, playoff depth, being under 10 interceptions, completing a full season, passing yardage milestones, taking less than 15 sacks. Look, Bryce isn't a Ferrari, he isn't a Corvette, or a mid-level BMW. He's probably a new Toyota Sienna that will definitely get you somewhere and bring the whole team along with it, no fuss but not a lot of pizazz.  And really, it's about the destination, not about what drove you there.
