Recommended Posts

Now is about the time I get a hankering for SCARY MOVIES through Halloween.

There are a few films I watch every year and never get tired of.

- The Exorcist

- Rosemarie's Baby

- Poltergeist

- Friday the 13th 1,2,3

- Halloween 1,2

- A nightmare on Elm St - 1,2

- The Shining

What should I add?

Great horror movies already listed. Here are some of my favorites I consider "must watch" that haven't been mentioned yet:

MV5BYzY0ZjJlNmMtMGU3NC00Yjk3LTk0N2ItMDNl

The Return of the Living Dead  - (91% RT) I mean, simply one of the best horror/comedy movies ever. Bonus points for 1980s punk soundtrack. "Send moreeee parameediccs"

Evil Dead II - (98% RT) GOAT

Dead Alive - (88% RT) Before Peter Jackson did Lord of the Rings, he made absolutely insane and hilarious zombie movies with genius practical effects. Ever wonder what it'd look like to mow down zombies with a lawn mower? Killer zombie toddler anyone? Classic.

What We Do in the Shadows -  (96% RT) Horror/comedy mockumentary from New Zealand. Spinal Tap with vampires.

MV5BNTUxNzYyMjg2N15BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMTEx

The Cabin in the Woods - (92% RT) Drew Goddard deconstructs the genre using every horror trope we know and love. This movie rules.

and stepping out of the horror/comedy mold:

The \/\/ITCH - (91% RT) If you like slow burn horror in the same vein as The Shining, see this movie ASAP. Easily one of the best horror movies of the past twenty years imo. Incredibly unnerving.

The Conjuring 2 - (79% RT) James Wan is simply the best going for straight up scary and fun major Hollywood horror. He's ability to build atmosphere and tension is up there with the greats. The Nun painting scene should be taught in horror film school.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre -  The 1974 original is still a powerhouse.

The Ring - The rare exception where the American remake is done very well.

Let the Right One In - Ok, I haven't even seen this modern vampire tale but by all accounts it's great.

Drag Me to Hell - For fans of Evil Dead, this is required viewing. Sam Raimi's return to horror after doing the Spider-Man thing. He shows he still has it.

Shaun of the Dead -  Modern zombie classic. Funny and gorey with a big heart.

Sinister - Modern horror done very well.

Antichrist - For hardcore fans only. Beautifully shot film that will stay with you long after it ends. Bonus: Willem Dafoe rules

Wolf Creek - 2005 Australian horror/thriller summed up best by this Empire quote "a grimy gut-chiller that unsettles as much as it thrills, violently shunting you to the edge of your seat before clamping onto your memory like a rusty mantrap". Don't be fooled by the 53% RT score, the negative reviews were from critics calling it too hardcore and lifelike.

The Descent - Fun, scary, "lost in a deep dark cave" movie. Bonus that it's set deep in the mountains of North Carolina.

Man I thought Witch was terrible, and I usually agree with the RT ratings.    I actually had some LOL's during it though.    Guess we all have those movies we just don't love like everyone else lol.

Yeah you’re not alone in thinking that. Lots of people think it’s super boring and not scary.  I think it has to do with the marketing and modern audiences expectations of “horror” movies.

The closet comparison to me is one of my favorite movies ever “The Shining”, where the main story isn’t so much the ghosts but the mental breakdown of a family in the midst of an awful situation.

    • Have you seen the mock drafts lately?   Most of them have us taking a QB. Just because you aren't high on these QBs doesn't mean the Panthers or other teams aren't.   If you want me to be real I just think you a Tmac homer and all you care about is us drafting him. It's why you get so defensive when people mention other prospects.   Be open to other people's ideas. Nobody in this thread is saying anything bad about your boy Tmac.
    • Oh good lord Interest doesn't mean interest in making a bad trade to take the player, that's why I had such a long post, to accurately describe why those are two different things, but you don't like to listen to that stuff.  Being interested in a player doesn't live in a vacuum. It's very simple... there isn't a #1 draft pick type of grade on any of these QB's, if there was, we'd just take them.  You can't bluff a pick everyone knows you won't make, and trying to trade the pick is the CLEAR signal that you're not taking the QB. Just because the Raiders would have interest, doesn't mean they're going to bail us out of a situation we don't want to be in, they'd be smart about it and just sit put, let us take a non QB as we'd be telling the world we're not taking one just by trying to trade the pick, and then they'd take him at #2 (either with their own pick or by trading less to get that one). Oh, and your point of "if nobody is willing to make the trade, you obviously just take the best QB" is quite literally the dumbest thing I've ever read on here. If nobody is willing to trade up to take the QB, then it's OBVIOUS that the QB isn't worth taking with that pick, so OBVIOUSLY taking the best QB there is just OBVIOUSLY stupid and a bad pick. The moral of it is if there is a QB worth taking, we're taking them and not making the trade.  If there isn't a QB worth taking there, nobody is trading up to #1 to take one, we just showed the NFL how bad of an idea that is 2 years ago, it's really not hard to see. You keep making up this mythical situation where there is a QB who has shown to be worth trading up to #1 for and we'll be able to leverage that into a trade.  But we're the most QB needy team in the league, if we end up with the #1 pick, either we are taking a QB #1 or no QB is going #1 unless we get VERY lucky and two teams in the Top 5 fall in love with one prospect and we can play them off each other and fleece one of them. But again, I can't see that happening, as if there was a QB worthy of that, we're just taking him ourselves.
    • Sanders is with Tom Brady brand and that's his mentor. The Raiders owner was with Sanders taking pics at a Vegas game together.   It doesn't take much to connect the dots that Vegas will be interested in Sanders as their franchise QB. Oh yeah and guess who hasa small ownership stake in the Raiders Tom Brady.   I guess this is just another made up Madden idea by me huh?
