Sporting News Believes We Should Rest Cam Until Philly Game

Cam Newton is broken, and things around him are breaking.

Before it's too late, the Panthers need to help their quarterback play well and get whole again ... by not playing him at all for a couple weeks.

With Carolina at 2-1 fresh off Sunday's 34-13 home beatdown at the hands of NFC South-rival New Orleans and facing AFC East juggernaut New England next, it would seem like the wrong time to think about resting Newton. But continuing to play him would be ignoring how he's not fully recovered from his right shoulder surgery and is further hampered by a bad ankle.

I'm not really opposed to that since it could pay off in the long run. Unfortunately, we don't have a good backup. I don't think we can be competitive against any good team if DA starts. We could dig ourselves into a season long hole if we sit Cam now.

If this is the offense we're going to be running then having a big time playmaker like Cam isn't exactly necessary. If we're just looking to dump the ball off within 10 yards every play with the odd downfield shot well then rest Cam.

It would never happen but I'd much rather have Kaaya back there over DA. Kaaya will make some rookie throws but he can stand back there and make the right reads. DA has been so bad I don't want that guy anywhere near the field.

If Matt Kalil wasn't so f'n awful then this probably never gets brought up but Cam can't keep taking these kind of beatings. Cam deserves better than this sh*t and as much as I admire him for playing through the amount of pain I can only assume he's in I rather not see him ruin the rest of his career because of the r*tards around him.

I'm with you. I'd rather have Kaaya than DA as the backup

It all comes back to Matt Kalil...

Kaaya is decent (like almost any QB) if given proper protection but his mechanics go to sh*t when pressured. I watched Kaaya's 4th preseason game today and outside of a horrible INT in the endzone he looked pretty good for a 22 year old rookie. He doesn't try to do too much and makes solid reads.

But like I said... Matt Kalil, and if it wasn't for Kalil we're most likely not even having this discussion. So damn frustrating.

Yeah. I was hoping he could at least just be average but it looks like he won't even be that. He looks remmers bad.  We're fuged. Cam deserves better

Hard to argue about resting Cam. This is why I blew a gasket when we released Webb. Unfortunately, DA is not the guy he once was: Durable, dependable, capable backup. Now, it seems, he's almost as much a wildcard as Cam is right now. At least when Webb was in, the team responded. sooo....

Not sure about Kaaya. Don't really know much about him.

Watch Luck come back on fire, because they're waiting until he's ready to come back. Seems likely we forced Cam out there too early, and it's hindering his healing process. Granted, you can't blame injury for all his struggles. His decision making, and read progression as well as pocket presence have been terrible in addition to his accuracy.

    • You have gave the board some recent gold via posting. Heres my poor attempt at the truthful play-by-play of the time during post- I pulled out the old laptop to do my shitposting and check on websites. Open the huddle and see this new thread. Open thread and read CRAs post, {inner thinking, oooOOooo this is my lane and I got this}. Make sure not to scroll even to the 2nd post. 23% of current neurons still firing start up and two names appear- Captain and Josh....... about another 43 seconds past "O GOD" it's July 4th weekend and I got medicine to pick up. (If the laptop didn't give away my aging, the meds should...) I need to split, think long panther careers and the hint-  Ryan Kalil was a late 2nd and Pro bowls(even all-pros too) he's got to be OLman and Mikie Minter is among the all-time Panthers career leaders. Drop my post. Scramble to get keys, wallet, and phone. Check my phone- its 17% battery.....fug I now have to raw dog the pickup line and put the phone on charge.... Flip flops, sweat ringed filled hat, and shades acquired. Get in my pos rav4 and think about not running the A/C. Pull out the drive way and reach the 1st stop light, A/C is wide open. I check my shirt to see if there's any new stains on my house shirt, bush off the Bojangles salt that I see.... Neurons re-fire and focus on the comments CRA made that no one would get this....... Dang IT, that means it isn't Ryan Kalil or Mike Minter! CVS is close, but I know its impossible I get back withing 10 minutes to change my post and my phone is on the charger. {Think you monkey, at one point you were a draft nerd}. Reach the CVS line, by some grace its not 5 cars deep during 5 o'clock traffic hell. Im second in line after the car in front of me both turn in, they have to go back and forth to line up while Im a pro for that geometry. Neurons finally reach peak performance as Ive re-thought draft classes. Think obscure and unknown 7th rounders with long careers. Some Sunday/Monday night member berry fell out of my Melon, Will montgomery during the players intros for washington. I thought he out of the league and was shocked to see him still playing around the 2015 years. I do a goggle background check and that refreshed memory. Pick up the meds and enjoy the sweet smelling cool CVS air. Driving back and check in on one of the local bums at the big stop light, wow he's got a new fancy rug. Think about all the old food I got and need to start giving it away and rethink it. Reach home and post a follow up and I know Minter is wrong too, I check the draft history and see Robert Mcclain. Too late, but that would have been my guess....open CRAs link and get "upset" at the DBs name.
    • THANKS my guy! Keeping up with this threads theme, if I view a thread and there's only 20 posts and some time passes. If I see there's one new post and read the name; @Dave Gettleman's Shortsis among the chosen few that I will reopen that thread just to see what you posted.    Thanks again, plus not just a scout, thats scotty mccloughans son?!?!? If not for the deep claws of booze, scotty is among the best talent finders this league has recently had. Last I heard he ran a consulting business. Caden could be one of those who's on a early path to being a GM in the future. I was a big fan of his dad, dam shame about booze demon ruining his career.
