Next gen stats - our run blocking is atrocious, Stewart and Mccaffrey are disappointments

Link, or I ain't believing some random Huddler. Show me where Fournette has faced more stacked boxes than we have. Hellz. 4 of our first 6 opponents have stacked the box, making Cam beat them. Until tonight, it hadn't worked out to well. But hey, we lost. So let's make it sound worse than it was. Am I right?

Just to expound on his statement, last week, before his 90 yard run where he was untouched, Fournette was averaging 0.8 yards before contact. 75% of his yards had come after contact.

Three thoughts:

1. Stewart is clearly on the decline. Too slow to the hole and can't break tackles like he used to.

2. CMC is better than his stats but it is painful to watch how he is being misused as a between the tackles runner.

3. We need to upgrade the offensive line ASAP.

1. I agree that Stewart has slowed down, but I think the dude can be effective. He's getting hit way too many times in the backfield and at the LOS. The same thing is happening to Cmac.

2. Agreed. They need to try to get him on the edges more. I'd also use him more on draw plays.

3. Ditto to that. Thing is, where exactly do we start? Trai just signed a long term extension in the offseason to play RG. Matt Kahlil got a big deal to come here and play LT. I don't think those guys are going anywhere soon. Do we draft/sign a center to replace Ryan at center after the season? Is it time to slide Moton in at RT to see what he can do? Should we re-sign Norwell at the end of the season? Can we justify giving him a big deal now? Turner, Norwell, and Kahlil make up 60% of the OL. If Ryan comes back at Center, we'll be bringing back 80%. Can we really get better keeping the status quo?

Even if we wanted did draft Chubb (which I wouldn't have a big problem with if we fancy ourselves to be running team), could we justify drafting him in the 1st round with all of the holes on this team? Based on his talent I can't see him making it past the early 2nd round.  Also, just how effective would he be behind the current OL? and, how would you go about improving our run blocking for next season?

Run blocking will improve with Kalil but it is also a mindset that Panthers haven't committed on a consistent basis. We are most likely going 12-4 or 13-3 with post-season run so the draft pick is going to be at the bottom of the ladder. I would get one of TEs or Chubb based on who is available if not move up in 2nd round and get this man.

That’s a good shout — not sure if the Panthers’ FO will be willing to spend another first (or even second) round pick on another RB — given the age/injury of Peppers and Kuechly, and the OT play — but if he drops, that’d be an incredible tandem.

We just picked Hall so that should develop into something next year, Luke should be good but another LB will be great. Panthers are a run first team and if you can run the ball you have better defense.

Top priorites:

1: TE

2: S/RB

3: DE

4: OL

At this point, it's pretty obvious that CMC is more of a receiver than he is a runner and that CAP should be taking most of Stew's snaps. Stew was a very good RB for us when healthy for a long time, but the guy is clearly shot.

I'm thinking similarly but nobody can run so it's hard to single him out.

I have never been for drafting a running back early but I guess I fell for the hype we were fed about him early.
