When should players be benched for lack of effort..

I’m pretty sure that everyone on the Huddle will agree that the players on offense are showing a lack of effort that even a blind person can see. It’s not only a lack of effort but a lack of execution as well. Yes, Shula shoulders some of the blame for this but there have been plays where if the guys hit their blocks or catch the ball big yards can be gained.

i know it’s very early in the season but am just interested to see what you guys/gals think. If this continues then at what point does Ron need to show he has a pair and bench the slackers?

"If they are wearing a tie, max effort has been given."

RR on player effort October 2017

On a serious note, I don't think RR will bench anybody due to "lack of effort".  While I agree that it appears not everyone is giving 100% all the time, I feel this has to do with the coaching and the environment they foster and a lack of discipline.

Did you watch the Miami v Syracuse game this weekend? Dino Barber made one of his players do push ups on the sidelines for not knowing where his helmet is! Accountability.

Had a short post about this in another thread.

"This is when being a "players coach" bites you in the rear."

When the going is good, it's great.  Smiles everywhere, laughing, easygoing locker room, light practices, etc....

When the going gets tough....it's hard to bring down the hammer.  Hard to sit 17 for a half because of his piss poor effort.  Hard to cut a player to give the rest of the team something to think about.  Hard to get in your OC's face and demand better performances, or it's his ass.

Some coaches are good for some teams...problem is, teams change.  Some are rebuilding (where I think Ron's best fit is), some are young playoff hopeful teams, some are grizzled vets pushing for a Super Bowl.

    • This season only ends one way... We win this Sunday. Bryce is decent. We take back 1st place...   Only to then get our brakes blown off in the last two weeks.
    • Here's one of the most maddening things, that will be shown in full light over the next three weeks. The same people around here that called Darnold a bum and Mayfield a washed up over draft are also the ones saying Bryce is a catastrophe. Yeah, and I've been one who said Bryce wasn't big enough, brave enough or capable enough. I said back in the day that Darnold had a lot of fight in him and got shouted down. And on Mayfield, heck I didn't know, I just knew we had a very, very bad team that was run terribly. But I saw both of those guys go out there and resurrect their careers and be play-off bound since shaking the Carolina clay dust off their cleats. And we sat there and cat called their cars as they pulled out of the parking lot, laughing at what nobodies they were. Over the next three weeks, those two guys may just serve us sh!t sandwiches and then settle down to their just desserts. And then we'll probably let Bryce go off into the realm of other teams. And when that happens, will we see him coming back, better than before and we're left to re-sit this cycle all over again? Same naysayers, same results, same revolving carousel of ponies and pundits?  Will we end up looking like the Temu version of the San Diego Chargers back in the day watching Drew Brees come to fruition in the previously moribund Superdome while we whiff on a Manning pick just to be jilted for Phillip "Always a Bridesmaid" Rivers?
