No - because when one player grossly out performs another player you take the better player.

Seriously....we have much bigger issues to worry about than our kicker who has missed one FG and has done everything he's been asked to do.

There's more to it than just performance (and I can't even say Gano outperformed Butker at all). Look at Gano's cap hit and age compared to Butker. And you're going solely off of TC. Preseason games need to be taken into account more and Butker was much better in the actual games. And Gano's past needs to be taken into account as well. We don't even have confidence in GG to kick a 50 yarder so we punt for a 15 yard net gain instead...

I'm not denying we have bigger issues but kicking is the topic in this thread. If you want to talk about the other issues do so in the proper place.

You're right that it no longer matters. That doesn't make talking about it a crime on a sports forum.

Grossly outperforms? That would be a massive overstatement. That makes it sound like Gano hit every kick from unbelieveable distance and Butker repeatedly missed easy short ones. That Butker looked like a rank poor kicker. Well that hot take doesn't really seem very accurate based on Butker's current performance does it?

I'm also going to give you credit for being smart enough to accept that training camp is not equal to clinch match situations. Also, that Gano has an unjustifiable contract for a player who the HC won't let attempt a long kick.

Calling the fanbase idiots for simply disagreeing with your opinion on a meaningless roster discussion says a lot about you frankly.

I just don't care. No matter how I try.

LOL at those who don't care but just can't stop themselves from wasting their own time by typing a message to tell us how much they don't care.

For those who do care to take an interest, Kansas was showing considerable interest in Butker pre-draft. They had him rated as the top kicker coming out. Not enough to draft him but still. That's why they jumped on him when he hit the practice squad. Kansas being one of the best rated and coached ST units in the league. So it wasn't just a lucky coincidence that he ended up taking Santos job at KC.

Quote

Butker, a seventh-round selection in April, was on the Chiefs’ radar during the draft. General manager Brett Veach and special teams coach Dave Toub had him ranked as the draft’s top kicker.

“They loved the kid,” Reid said. “They saw a big kid with a strong leg and they felt like he had good accuracy and would fit in well. He’s done all that, probably even more what they bragged on him about.”

There is a thread on Butker every week. It's beyond silly at this point to keep talking about it.

The kicking competition wasn't even close in TC until Gano missed that second FG in a preseason game. Yes, Butker missed a ton of easy kicks. I love how you call it a massive overstatement when I saw it with my own eyes - literally watched the kicking performances specifically because I wanted Butker to be better, but he wasn't. And now you're calling that a hot take because Butker has performed great this season? You must not know the definition of what a hot take is, buddy.

im going to give you credit to know that when coaches are evaluating players and one performs noticeably worse than the other then they tend to go with the one who performs better. You can understand that simple logic, right?

And I'm not calling people idiots for disagreeing with me, but if that's your interpretation of what I meant then that says a lot about you as well.

That’s utterly shocking!!!

I’m surprised Reid didn’t say “Yea Butker was probably the third or fourth kicker on our big board but you know, gotta take what you can get amirite?!?!”

What else did you expect him to say?

Also- they didn’t “jump on him when he hit the practice squad”- they were forced to make a move only when Santos went down with an injury.

I say i don't  care, cause as a Panther fan, whether i agreed with the move or not, I  moved on.

I have no obsession with the whole, "OMG, he's  doing great, our franchise is so fuged!"

I expect, and hope, the player does well.

It doesn't mean our guys screwed the pooch. They made a decision. It also wasn't an unexpected decision.

To many fans waste their time hating on Gano. He has performed well for us, as expected by those who weren't trying to hang him.

It just amazes me that even questioning a team decision on a sports discussion forum enrages you and some others so much. You know its completely okay for people to have different opinions right? I hope Butker does well. I am glad Gano is doing well. If I wish to continue to reflect on what might have been and contrast our kicker with the fortunes of Butker then that doesn't seem unreasonable to me. I am not responsible for making any Butker thread I am simply commenting because it is of interest to me. Nobody (i think) is forcing you to do the same. Perhaps if you're looking for unquestioning sycophancy you and roaringriot should support a franchise from North Korea. They do a great line in unquestioning obedience to the party line over there.

where are all the stupid fuggers that thought Gano was the "Clear" choice

he doesn't even get to attempt anything over 50 cause they know he can't make them.  Gano was shanking kicks in pre-season too but let's base our decision off of some meaningless Training Camp practices and ignore all the stats from last year too..hes a horrible kicker and anyone with a brain knew butker was the clear choice
