I'm just going to ignore every thread started here that opens with a self congratulatory sentiment and assume that was the reason the post was made. we should have a sticky thread called "things I was right about" and make it a gigantic circle jerk.

That wasn't my intent.  I also acknowledged my stance on Hurney after my stance on KB for context of the point I was making about Hurney forcing the offense to change, by changing the personnel.  But, here, you're not allowed to say when you disagree with a move while it's relevant, and apparently, you're not allowed to speak about it after the fact either, so i guess we should all just conform and parrot each other.

Did someone say "parrot"?

As to the premise, the hard part of crediting Hurney with having a plan here is that he didn't initiate it. Maybe he gave some thought after it was suggested to him, but as usual Marty is still being reactive rather than  proactive. That's his MO.

That's what sucks about this. The idiot wasn't even shopping him. I'd bet the farm that Beane was up in Buffalo just waiting until like 2:30 on deadline day because he knew Hurney would make an impulse decision like a pack of gum at the checkout counter.

I have considered something like this.

Maybe it isn't just Shula, but RR too.  Hurney, as a supposed interim GM (I know, I know, but they need to make it to look like he is), can hardly fire both the HC and the OC in the middle of the season.

I have thought for a couple of years that our offense is more a reflection of what RR wants than what Shula wants.

Consider this; mid-way through Chud's last year here, Ron sat him down and strongly suggested he change the offense. To my knowledge he has never felt the need to do this with Shula so he must be happy with the play calling.

In my opinion, if you fire Shula and keep RR in place, you have accomplished nothing.

I can agree on that.  I'm just trying to provide a different perspective on it.

It sounds like it was something hr thought about, but hadnt pulled the trigger on.  But, again, dont get me wrong, Hurney is no mastermind genius.  But, i wonder if he is taking a more no-nonsense approach if he feels like this is his last chance to secure the job.  And if he's not quite comfortable rnough with firing staff members yet, this was the next logical jump.

    • Most EVs are in the 90+ e-MPG meaning some measurement house somewhere compares the EV to a similar ICE model and works out how much is costs to charge (on average) versus fill up as a point of comparison. Talking long term, in the hundreds of thousands of miles?  No clue.  Some early signs are that EV batteries maintain 80% charge over 400k miles.  So there's that.   The challenge and charm of an ICE vehicle is being able to park it under a tree, get your jack stands out and tinker with your engine.  There's just not that same level of complexity in an EV.  I saw someone estimate there are 200 or so moving parts in an EV, and 2000 in an ICE vehicle.  I'm not a part counter so I can't really speak to that. I think that the EV is more the future than any type of combustion engine.  Those will still be around in specific purposes, but for most people - an EV will be the superior option in terms of efficiency.  I say that as someone who loves stupid horsepower numbers out of turbo 4 bangers and inline 6s...  I am one of those tinkers when I can be. A bigger issue for EVs is going to be the ownership versus lease.  Right now, there are INSANE leases on EVs, which is great, but what do you have at the end of that lease?  Nada, maybe some equity if you're lucky.  Where as I'm almost done paying for my car, and plan to keep it until the wheels fall off (or my son wrecks it when he starts to drive).  Will EV makers do the smartphone thing and build in planned obsolesce?  Stop updating software?  I love the tech in EVs, and I think getting more cars and trucks off the road is a good thing.  But I am still just a little concerned.  Capitalism has gotten far too extractive.
