The Answer to our Offensive Woes is on the Bench

Right now Steve Smith is close to the lead for being the most targeted WR in the league with 48 targets. He is the other Steve Smith though, playing for the Giants. But no wonder, he has caught 37 of those 48 for a 77% completion rate and has 4 TDS and over 400 yards.

Our Steve Smith does have 41 targets and only 20 catches for a completion percentage of right at 50%. Hopefully he and Jake will get use the next few games to get on the same page.

Exactly, if the our steve smith could have the numbers that the other steve smith has then I think our situation would be much better right now. The offense would be moving and the offensive line would be wearing down the opposing defense with the running game. I guess I think we should spread it around and try to force the defense to adjust and then go back to Smith. He needs the ball in his hands but Jake (with the help of the oline) has been having trouble getting it in there.

Oh, and good job on finding those stats (remember the ny giants have played 5 games to our 4).

We already discussed the fact that does spread the ball around. For example Moose has as many catches as Smith. Smith only gets 35% of the targets. The other Steve Smith gets 36% of Manning's throws. That's about average for a number 1 receiver.

What the line needs to do is give Jake the time to survey the field and fins Smith late. With teams doubling Smith you have to throw right away or wait until he clears late. We are forced to do the former since the blocking has been so bad. That is why most all the receiver's yards per catch is down this year compared to last. And we have given up half as many sacks in 4 games as we gave up all of last year.

I agree Sultan... if she ran naked thru the stadium the defenses would be distracted and we would win... unless our guys got distracted too, but then who cares, Rosario Dawson would be naked and I wouldn't be watching the game either...

I don't think I can ever possibly 100% agree with Fiz, but he has a point that we've GOT to get more play makers involved on offense.

You would have to issue each OL at least a 3 wood to be able to hold off the rush for Jake to be able to survey the field, go through his check down and then find Smith. 12 Linemen couldn't provide enough time for Jake to do that. Jake stands around in the backfield longer than Sam's statue does in front of the stadium!

I'd like Rosario and King to get the ball more, but what about K Moore?I think Moore has some potential.Jarret doesn't drop the ball much, why isn't he getting the ball more,is he having trouble getting open?

When he's in, watch Jarrett proceed through his routes. He makes Moose look like Usain Bolt.

Rosario is often the second best tight end on the team yet alone the best on the field and surely hasn't been the best on the field any week of the season so far this year.

He is due props for not disappearing this year as he has in the past and his ability to hold onto the ball so far and separate against linebackers is why Jake is throwng him the ball. He is surely improving and is justifying the faith coaches have had in him. He has gone from on the bubble in camp to a good option for Jake.

But his failure to be a well rounded player who can block as well as catch is not overcome by his receiving ability. King has just as many catches and can block as well. Neither of them are very fast or would fare well against someone with even decent speed. I would love to see him continue to develop and improve as we have not had a good TE option in almost a decade. Still he is not the answer to our offense or the missing piece to the puzzle. He is a piece but not the main piece. That would be better line play especially by Vincent. Frankly Gross looked pretty bad as well.

He's the best receiving and play making TE we got. PERIOD.

you really have no idea what you're talking about.. but that's okay. I won't try to stir up any intelligent thought. I've tried, it doesn't help.

    • https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/47371200/sources-rams-fire-special-teams-coordinator-chase-blackburn LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Rams have fired special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The move marks the first in-season coaching change that Rams head coach Sean McVay has made in his nine seasons in Los Angeles. Rams assistant special teams coach Ben Kotwica will take over and become the lead special teams coach, a source told Schefter. The Rams, 11-4 and second place in the NFC West, lost to the Seahawks on Thursday night in a game that included a Seattle punt return for a touchdown and a missed 48-yard field goal by Los Angeles kicker Harrison Mevis. The Seahawks (12-3) overtook the Rams for first place in the division and the top overall record in the NFC thanks to the 38-37 overtime victory. Though the Rams have lost only four games this season, three have involved special teams miscues. In the Rams' first loss of the season, 33-26 to the Eagles, Los Angeles had its final two offensive possessions end with blocked kicks. In the Rams' Week 10 victory over the Saints, kicker Joshua Karty missed an extra point and a 39-yard field goal attempt. After the game, McVay said the Rams' special teams issues "can't continue like this." Los Angeles replaced long-snapper Alex Ward with Jake McQuaide and Karty with Mevis, who had not missed a kick until Thursday night in Seattle. Blackburn, 42, was in his third season as the Rams' special teams coordinator. A former linebacker for the Giants and Panthers, he also has worked as an assistant with Carolina and Tennessee.
    • It was a bad play from Icky but the OL didn't give up a sack until late in the 4th quarter and Bryce just stood there like he was canatonic. If our 3rd year number one overall pick can't overcome one single sack against a rebuilding Saints team that should only have 2 wins this season then it isn't ever going to happen   This is your quote. I mean I’ve quoted it twice. It was followed by calling people that defended him fugers and several other meltdowns I can also quote.    Shame you for working for a living??? Wow this is a whole new level to your victim mentality thing you like to do. You don’t have to watch games live. Or don’t spend an entire thread arguing about something you didn’t get the full picture of. I miss parts of games all the time. That’s just life. Not even going into the whole losing all respect thing.
    • Rams ended up firing ST coach and former Panthers coach Chase Blackburn after the loss. Sounds all too familiar.
