Playoff Scenarios for the Panthers

Shocker

Recommended Posts

Hoping someone can check my math here.  For the Panthers to be absolutely SURE they make the playoffs we need to win out.  There is still a possibility that LA, Seattle, NO and Atlanta all finish 11-5.  We have lost to all NFC teams this season and that is bad.

Best case for us would be we win the next 2 games and Atlanta and\or Seattle lose.  Do I have that right?  That game yesterday was much bigger than I realized - that was a must win.

Win out and hope for a NO loss is where I'm at right now, still a tad bit of hope to win the division.  I think a first round bye is out the window at this point.

The Panthers have played really well on the road, so I don't mind them being a wildcard this season.  I think realistically we are shooting for the 5 seed.

Panthers  win out and get one lost from the Saints. Vikings, and Rams and they get a first round Bye

Yeah, that would work well for us...I was just wondering about avoiding a win and in, lose and out game at Atlanta.  Could be really tough.

You're definitely incorrect, the Panthers win, then a NO loss and a LA loss is what must transpire. And either a loss by MIN or a few from PHI. This locks down the 1st round bye.

Not even sure what all those other teams have in terms of relevance to us, they're just wild card contenders so I'm really not sure why you're posting about them.

In the scenario I mentioned above, if we win weeks 15 and 16, Atlanta wins out, Saints only lose to Atlanta, and Seattle wins out, Then we miss the playoffs. If we beat Atlanta, then we are the 2 seed.

Yeah, this was my thinking as well.  We need to pull for the Rams next week and NO at home against the Falcons to avoid this scenario.  Assuming all else goes as it should.

    • You literally did it right there and didn't even remember it. Sorry long Friday.
    • TMac to finish up Feels good after pads came on. Physicality is a little different, playstyle is a little different. Refs let the players play, so he has to earn his stripes to get calls and just has to be better playing through contact. Focusing on staying confident and listening to coaches. Not much has changed for him, still trying to be his authentic self. Was asked about boxing practice he was seen doing. He's done that since he was a kid because his dad was a boxer and taught his siblings. Was the youngest and got beat up the most, but now he's the fourth of sixth children. Boxing helps with his cardio and being reactive with his hands to the ball + DB. Admits to struggling the first couple of days, hats off to the DB corps for making him better every single day but had his best day on Wednesday. Even the best get got. Just have to remain confident in preparation and abilities. Confidence will take you only so far, and that's where his resilience plays a factor. XL is authentic and great to have in the room. Can rely on him to be the same guy every day. They make each other better. Everybody feeds off of each other and when one person wins they all win. Happy to be a part of the receiver room. Was asked about how he was laughing harder than everybody else at XL getting his feet in the water off the back of the boat: "Man he needs to be stopped bro... He can't be serious but he was serious. It's all good." Playing against the increased amount of press he's facing in practice is helping him get more physical. His job is to catch the ball, so if it touches his hand he has to come down with it. Only catches with one hand if he needs to, but that gives the QB a bigger catch radius. Had a pregame routine where he did a 360 one-handed catch, but doesn't do it anymore. Working on being a pro: Getting into the facility early and getting treatment, eating better, etc. Just wants to win re: rookie goals. Anything he can do to help the team win. "I'm looking for to the season man and keep pounding."
    • DJ Wonnum up next Felt the defense came out ready to work at all levels and took over practice. New standard around here. Young guys have to know they're coming in to work. Last year was not the standard. Nic and Princely are fun. Different personalities but loves what they bring to the room. Sky is the limit for them. Nic sits next to Wonnum, Princeley sits next to Jones II. Allows them to be better mentors. Feels great and ready to go Incoom's athleticism allows him to bend and get low even to compensate for not being the biggest guy. Can set the edge. EDGE guys are helped when the ILBs can get home because it allows them to be a little more free while still in scheme. DB being back means his dominance is back. Can set the edge from the 3 or wherever he's at to make the runs bounce to the EDGE guys. Winning mentality and standard this year. Championship level from practice to how you live off of the field. Accept greatness and excellence with guys wanting to come to work every day. Not settling for anything less. Been in guys' shoes that are fighting for roster spots so he knows how to address them. Remembers not knowing what's next, especially as a rookie. Have a clear mind and ask the older guys a lot of questions. Has a good relationship already with Pat Jones II due to knowing each other and talking football all of the time. Can make hand gestures and know immediately what to adjust. Taking care of his body and excited to start the season. Getting it acclimated to football again by being able to tackle and bring players to the ground. Didn't know they were playing live tomorrow. Don't tell me it'll be "thud." Browns next week will allow them to hit somebody else and get a feel of what a different team is doing. Also allows the team to see where they're at on offense and defense. Ready to play football. Not worried about the QB matchup for Cleveland, going to play hard regardless of who is back there.
